A couple had a son eleven years after they married. They were a loving couple and the boy was the apple of their eye. When the boy was around four years old, one day the father was very tired after work so he asked his wife to pick up their son. The mother, who was very busy in the kitchen, totally forgot about it. Later the boy lost his way on the street. When the son was found missing, the mother hurried to look for him, but she didn't find him. The mother felt very sad and didn't know how to face her husband. When the father went to the police station after hearing that the son was missing, he looked at his wife and said just four words. What do you think the four words were? The husband just said “I love you, darling.” The son was missing. If she had picked him up earlier, this would not have happened. There is no point in blaming (责备) anyone. His wife had also lost her only child. What his wife needed at that moment was comfort and understanding from her husband. That is what the husband gave his wife. Several weeks later, with the help of the police, the couple finally found their lost son. The family's relationship became stronger over that time. Sometimes we spend lots of time asking who is to blame. We miss many chances to give each other support and let each other feel the warmth of human relationships. Get rid of all your unwillingness to forgive, selfishness, and fears and you will find the world is much more wonderful.4.What is the meaning of the underlined phrase “the apple of their eye”?A.A person who always has a sweet smile in their opinion.B.A person who is as pretty as an apple in their opinion.C.A person who is loved more than anyone else in their opinion.D.A person who looks like an apple in their opinion.5.Why didn't the father pick the boy up himself?A.He was very lazy.B.He thought the mother had picked him up.C.He forgot to pick him up.D.He was too tired to do it.6.What can we learn from this passage?A.Be careful in everything you do.B.Love is the most important thing.C.Learn to forgive others.D.Everyone can make mistakes.7.What do you think of the husband?A.Warm-hearted.B.Careful.C.Hard-working.D.Broad-minded.

Mother Teresa was born in Yugoslavia, on August 27, 1910. She attended the government school near her home until she was eighteen. Many years ago my student asked me the question, "Mrs. Kindred, why do you teach?" Without taking time to reflect(反应), I answered, "Because someday I might say something that might make a difference in someone's life." Even though I was sincere, that wasn't a very good answer and my student didn't let it slide.
"Let me get this straight," he said, "You went to college for four years so you could come here every day because you have the hope that someday you might say something that will influence someone?" He shook his head as if I were crazy and walked away looking confused. I'm one of those people who look back and wish they had said something smart or witty(机智的), or swift(敏捷的).
Even though that particular student might no longer wonder why I teach, there are days when I wonder. On those days, I remind myself of the real reasons I teach:
It's in my blood. My mother was my most influential teacher, and she was a 6th grade reading teacher until her death in 1990. She instilled(逐渐灌输) in me a love of reading and the knowledge that education opens doors.
Teaching is a way to make a difference. If you throw a stone in a pond the ripples go on and on until they reach the shore. You can't have ripples without a "stone." Good teachers throw stones that make a positive difference, and that's what I strive to do.
I genuinely love teenagers.
I want to share with others what I know and what I have learned through the years. Life is full of ups and downs, and if I can help students avoid some potholes on the road of life, I want to do so. If they'll allow me to celebrate their victories with them, I want to do too.
Teaching isn't for everyone, but I know I made the right career choice.

14.We can infer from the text that _________.
A.the writer was also a good teacher in schoolB.the writer often plays with her students beside a pondC.the writer devotes herself to teaching and her studentsD.the writer often accompanies the students on their way home

Maybe you are an ordinary student.① 16 This is not necessarily so. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here’s how: Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First arrange your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc, then decide a good, regular time for studying.② 17 A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you realize what is happening to your time. Make good use of your time in class.③ 18 Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says. Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material.④ 19 If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer. Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be over worried. ⑤ 20 You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.A. This will help you understand the next class.B. You probably think you will never be a top student.C. Don’t forget to set aside enough time for entertainment.D. No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.E. I hope we’ll keep in touch with each other and let the flower of friendship blossom forever.
Best wishes.
