BEIJING, July 2 -- China Monday congratulated Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on his victory's in Mexico's presidential elections.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks at a press briefing, saying China and Mexico are good friends and partners.
According to reports, Lopez Obrador, candidate of Mexico's National Regeneration Movement, won Sunday's presidential election.
China believes that under the leadership of Lopez Obrador, Mexico will continue making new achievements in national development and playing an important role in international and regional affairs, said Lu.
Noting that Mexico is a major country in Latin America, a key emerging market country, and a comprehensive strategic partner of China, Lu said China attaches great importance to developing relations with Mexico, and is ready to work with Mexico to build up mutual trust, deepen cooperation, bring benefits to both peoples and contribute positive energy to the international community.
