BEIJING, Jan. 5 -- A senior Chinese justice official said a new order to record law enforcement proceedings will help curb power abuse.
Liu Zhenyu, the vice justice minister, told a press conference on Friday that administrative law enforcement has greatly improved in recent years, but the issues of abuse of power, violation of procedures and inertia still exist.
These are being addressed by the latest order of the General Office of the State Council to require full recordings of law enforcement proceedings.
The move aims to build a transparent government subject to public supervision. The audio-and-video recordings would allow each and every part of law enforcement to be accessible for review and curb abuse of power, Liu said.
The measure is very important to protect the public's rights, maintain the government's credibility and create a transparent, rules-based, fair and efficient law enforcement environment, he added.
