Work has started on the city's new airport, which, when it opens in 2017, will be able to handle an impressive 130 million passengers a year, almost 40 million more than Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta, which is said to be the world's busiest airport at present.

The new airport, located at Daxing, about 50 kilometers south of Beijing's city center, will have eight runways and access to a comprehensive network of ground transport, including high-speed trains and inter-airport trains.

新机场位于北京市中心南部50公里的大兴，机场将拥有八条跑道，乘客从机场可直接进入一个地面综合交通网络，包括高铁和机场间列车。
