KIEV, July 11 -- President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with the Prime Minister of Moldova Maia Sandu deepening the cooperation between two countrie during the latter's official visit to Kiev, information on the president's official website showed on Thursday.
"Moldova is a very close country for us. Our relations are really warm. We are grateful for the continued support of Moldova to our sovereignty and territorial integrity," note the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky and Sandu held a press briefing after the meeting and disclosed that the topics discussed between them included the economic relations, energy cooperation and security issues.
The trade turnover between the two countries increased by 11 percent in 2018 and amounted to nearly 1 billion U.S. dollars. Ukrainian president expressed the hope that this year the trade will grow even further.
The parties also discussed the prospects of uniting power systems of Ukraine and Moldova with the continental Europen grid, noted Zelensky who assured the Moldovan partner of Ukraine's reliability as an electricity supplier.
According to Sandu, Moldova is considering Ukraine as a strategic partnership on the way to European integration.
"European integration and implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union are our main common goals with Ukraine," she noted.
Sandu said that the Moldovan government wants to work closely with Ukraine in establishing permanent joint control over the border in order to fight cross-border crimes and smuggling.
The prime minister of Moldova came on a one-day work visit to Kiev on Thursday.
