BANGKOK, June 20 -- Thailand is gearing up for the 34th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok where leaders of the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will be gathering from Friday to Sunday.
As chair of ASEAN in 2019, Thailand is hosting the summit with the theme "Advancing Partnership for Sustainability." Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will chair the 34th ASEAN Summit.
The venue of the summit, The Athenee Hotel, and the surrounding areas on Wireless Road will be under tight security.
Around 10,000 police officers and security officials are deployed around the venue and at locations in the capital.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed all of the 10 ASEAN leaders will attend the summit.
