DURBAN, May 3 -- South Africa has improved and made is easy for tourists to visit the country and is continuing to make the environment conducive for people to come, said South African Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom.
Hanekom was briefing the media in Durban on Friday at the African Travel Indaba. He mentioned that South Africa will soon implement e-visa system.
"We want to have visa regime generally and we want to rapidly move to e-visa. Our President is passionate that people should have freely visit the country to improve the sector," said the minister.
Department of Tourism Director General Victor Tharage said the e-visa system has been designed and is now being tested and would be implemented "soon".
Hanekom said they would like to ease travel requirements for visitors from China, India and Nigeria "as they have a huge potential for growth."
Tharage shared the same sentiment, saying that "China, Nigeria and India are our markets for the future and we are prioritizing those there."
Last year the South African government signed an agreement with China for frequent travellers and business people to easily visit the country.
