WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 -- A man opened fire at a hot yoga studio in Tallahassee, southeastern U.S. state of Florida, killing two people and injuring five others before turning the gun on himself, police said Saturday.
The lone shooter, identified as 40-year-old local resident Scott Paul Beierle, died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday evening, Tallahassee police chief said.
The two victims were identified as Nancy Van Vessem, a 61-year-old faculty member at Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine in Tallahassee, and Maura Binkley, a 21-year-old student at the FSU.
Their deaths were "just devastating to the FSU family," the university's president, John Thrasher, said via Twitter.
Tallahassee police are still investigating possible motives.
Police received 911 calls about a shooting Friday afternoon, minutes after a hot yoga class was scheduled to begin, according to the studio's website.
Members of the yoga class reportedly fought back against the gunman before he shot himself.
"There were indications that several people not only fought back but tried to save other people," Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo told a news conference.
Detectives were looking for any links between the shooter and the victims, he said.
