BEIJING, Oct. 12 -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday called for a harder crackdown on criminal gangs.
Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Commission for the Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when chairing a national meeting.
The meeting heard progress reports by nine inspection teams targeting gang crime, which were dispatched earlier this year.
Guo, also head of the leading group of the national crackdown on gangs and organized crime, called for follow-up measures to address the problems found during the inspection.
He urged establishing a long-term mechanism to deepen the fight against criminal gangs, stressing crackdowns on illegal and criminal activities that disturb market order or infringe on people's rights.
