BERLIN, Jul 15 -- Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke will be out of action for an infinite period of time, the Bundesliga club announced on Sunday.
The 23-year-old striker suffered a heavy chest injury during a training session. An immediate examination revealed a pneumothorax.
"The loss hurts of course. As a team we will absorb his injury. I wish Davie a speedy recovery," Hertha Berlin coach Pal Dardai said.
According to the club's statement, Selke will be sidelined "for an indefinite period" and "definitely miss the season opener" against newly promoted Nuremberg on August 25.
"The injury annoys me incredibly. It really puts me off but I can't change it now. Injuries happen in professional football. I have to go through this now and come back as fast as I can," Selke told the club's official homepage.
The "Herthaner" completed the past season on the 10th place of the Bundesliga standings.
