HAIKOU, July 7 -- The 2018 Hainan Golf Open will host a total of 30 events and over 3,000 golfers are expected to compete, said a conference held on Saturday in the capital city of south China's Hainan province.
The 30 events include 22 domestic and five global promotion competitions, and three tournaments of the European Challenge Tour, International Amateur Championships and International Junior Championships.
According to the schedule, the International Junior Golf tournament will kick off in Haikou from Aug. 1 to 3; the International Amateur Golf tournament will be held in Yangpu from Nov. 22 to 24; the European Tour Challenge will take place from Oct. 11 to 14 in Sanya, and the prize money will amount to 350,000 U.S. dollars.
Pang Zheng, the secretary general of China Golf Association, said that China has become one of the most promising and dynamic places in golf all over the world. As one key golf event in China, Hainan Golf Open has played an active role in promoting the golf culture and the development of golf industry over the past ten years.
China has become the starting point for many European Tour Challenge stars, including Spanish player Nacho Elvira and Eric, Hainan Open champion of last year, said Alain de Soultrait, director of the European Challenge Tour. He's looking forward to seeing another golf star that will make history this year in Hainan.
