There was once a captain who loved money so much that he cheated his sailors at the end of every voyage and took their wages.
On the last day of one voyage, the ship was in a small port. It was winter time, and the sea was very cold, so the captain said to his sailors, "If one of you stays in the water during the whole night, I will give him my ship. But if he comes out before the sun appears, I shall get his wages."
The sailors had heard about the captain's cheating, so they didn't trust him. But then one of them, who thought that he was cleverer than the captain, said that he would do it. He got into the water, and, though it was very cold, he stayed in it. When it was nearly morning, some fishermen lit a fire on the shore about half a mile away.
"You are cheating," the captain said to the sailor. "The fire's warming you."
"But it's half a mile away!" said the sailor.
"A fire's fire," answered the captain. "I have won."
The sailor came out of the water, and said, "Perhaps you think that you are clever because you have won my wages, but you can't cook a chicken."
"I can," answered the captain.
"If you cook this chicken," said the sailor, "I shall work for you without wages for seven years, but if you can't, you will give me your ship."
The captain agreed, took the chicken and said, "Where's the fire?"
"There it is," answered the sailor. "On the shore."
"But it's half a mile away," said the captain angrily.

Dolls(娃娃)come in all shapes and sizes. Many people like to collect them. The reason is probably that dolls make people feel like they just gave birth to their own children. One famous doll company is Madame Alexander. The dolls it produces are usually bought by mothers for their daughters to play with. Two of the most expensive dolls they have are Kathleen Toddler whose market price today is from $125 to $300 and Binnie, which costs about $175 to $475.
Cabbage Patch Kids are another kind of dolls. That company’s marketing policy is different because you don’t buy a doll but rather adopt one. You just have to pay a small, regular fee. They were very successful in the 1980s.
Lee Middleton also produces baby dolls, including different collections. As they are very lively, these dolls are still very popular among collectors.
Another company that makes dolls is Tiny Miracles. They have a collection called the Ashton Drake Galleries that consists of 10-inch-long babies. They are not sold in stores, so if you want one, you have to order it straight from Tiny Miracles.
These are just a few of the baby dolls on the market. The best place to sell dolls is online because almost everyone has a computer and the company can make money here much more easily than by putting an ad in the newspaper. The companies don’t even have to create their own websites because they can use auction(拍卖)sites, meaning they just have to open an account.
61.If you want to adopt a baby doll, you should choose _________.

It is not a good idea to stop the actor Richard Griffiths in the middle of a play. During the past year he had stopped performances many times at the National Theatre when mobile phones rang, and he threw out one member of the audience because she failed to turn off her phone.
So when a mobile rang out for the third time during his performance in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, he spoke angrily to the theatergoer, “I am not going to compete with these electronic devices (装置).”
Griffiths’ actions led to a debate in the UK theatre world over whether phones should be forbidden by law from British theatres. Actors have already asked the govern-
ment to legalize the use of an electronic device that stops mobile phone signals in theatres.
Technology companies have “stopping” devices that send out a high-powered signal on the same frequency as a mobile phone, stopping the mobile phone signals.
However, these are forbidden in many countries because they might stop emergency (紧急情况) calls from being made.
Rosemary Squire, president of the Society of West End Theatre, said, “Phones are one of the biggest problems theatres face. We should look at equipment that could stop phones or make a London-wide theatre rule.”
Nick Allott, the managing director of Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s theatre group, said, “We would all welcome some ways of keeping phones from ringing but doctors and emergency workers need to be connected in a theatre and we mustn’t stop that.” What can we do to solve the problem?

D.Griffiths taught theatergoers a lesson in the performance as a teacher.
68.According to the passage, “stopping” devices _______.
A.have the same functions as mobile phones
B.cause the biggest problem theatres have to face
C.prevent the mobile phones signals from being received
D.help doctors or emergency workers receive emergency calls

B.no one except doctors and emergency workers should have mobile phones

Have you ever remembered something with your nose? Maybe the smell of hot dogs makes you think of being at a baseball game. Or the smell of barbequed meat reminds you of a night around a fire. Scientists know that smells can make people think of powerful memories. Wouldn't it be great to somehow save those memories?
That is exactly what Mark Crames, a businessman making perfumes (香水), is trying to do. His company, Demeter Fragrance, makes more than 200 kinds of perfumes. "Imagine every smell in the world as a musical note," Crames said. "We try to join those notes to make a piece of beautiful music." He has made many perfumes and he got the idea from plays, storms and even animals.
Everyday smells mean different things to different people. "A perfume called Poison Ivy might make you think of sadness or surprise," Crames says. "But it could make another person think of a great time at summer camp."
Crames produces perfumes using a high-tech method called headspace technology. This month, Crames is making scent for Tootsie Roll and Junior Mints. Not every smell can be easily copied. "One of our most needed perfumes is a little dog's breath," he says. "But it is so chemically complicated that it's very hard to get."
What scent would you like to bottle? A zoo? Or grandma's old house? Crames may be able to help you bring back your memories, so all you have to do is have a smell when you want to remember.

阅读下面短文并回答问题,然后将答案写到答题卡相应的位置上(请注意问题后的字数要求)。
[1]As is known, it is important to help your children gain key information from textbooks or understand what they read, especially as they get older. Here are the ways to improve their reading comprehension.
[2]Have them read aloud. This forces them to go slower, which gives them more time to process what they read. Besides, they are not only seeing the words, they are hearing them, too.
[3]Provide the right kinds of books. Make sure your children get lots of practice reading book that aren’t too difficult. They should recognize at least 90 percent of the words without any help. Stopping any more often than that to figure out a word makes it tough for them to focus on the overall meaning of the story.
[4]Reread to build fluency. To gain meaning from text, your children need to read quickly and smoothly—a skill known as fluency. Rereading familiar, simple books gives your children practice at decoding(解译) words quickly, so they’ll become more fluent.
[5]Talk to the teacher. If your children are struggling with comprehension, they may need more help with their reading—for example, they can turn to the teacher to build their vocabulary or practice phonics skills.
[6]Supplement(补充) class reading. If the class is studying a particular theme(主题), look for easy-to-read books or magazines on the topic. Some prior knowledge will make their way through tougher classroom texts.
[7]Talk about what they are reading. This “verbal processing” helps them remember and think through the themes of the book. Ask questions before, ________, for example:
Before: “What interests you in this book? What doesn’t?”
During: “What’s going on in the book? Is it turning out the way you thought it would?”
After: “Can you summarize the book? What did you like about it?”
