Green is an important color in nature. It is the color of grass and the leaves on trees. It is also the color of most growing plants.

Sometimes, the word green means young, fresh and growing. Sometimes, it describes something that is not yet ripe or finished. For example, a greenhorn is someone who has no experience, who is new to a situation. In the fifteenth century, a greenhorn was a young cow or ox whose horns(角) had not yet developed. A century later, a greenhorn was a soldier who had not yet had any experience in battle. By the eighteenth century, a greenhorn had the meaning it has today—a person who is new in a job.

Someone who has the ability to grow plants well is said to have a green thumb. The expression comes from early nineteen hundreds. A person with a green thumb seems to have a magic touch that makes plants grow quickly and well. You might say that the woman next door has a green thumb if her garden continues to grow long after your plants have died.

The Green Revolution is the name given some years ago to the development of new kinds of rice and other grains. The new plants produced much larger crops. The Green Revolution was the result of hard work by agricultural scientists who had green thumbs.

Green is also the color used to describe the powerful feeling, jealousy(嫉妒). The green-eyed monster is not a frightening creature from outer space. It is an expression used about four hundred years ago by British writer William Shakespeare in his play 揙thello? It describes the unpleasant feeling a person has when someone has something he wants. A young man may suffer from the green-eyed monster if his I girlfriend begins going out with someone else. Or, that green-eyed monster may affect your friend if you get a pay rise and he does not.

  63. A greenhorn now refers to ____.

  A. a person who is new in a job

  B. a new solider

  C. a young horse

  D. a cow without horns

  64. A person who has a green thumb is a person ____.

  A. who is good at growing plants

  B. whose thumbs are of green color

  C. whose garden is greener than others?

  D. who is younger than his neighbors

  65. The author

  is actually talking about ____.

  A. colors

  B. language

  C. politics

  D. agriculture

  66. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?

  A. In about the 16th century, a greenhorn meant an experienced soldier.

  B. The Green Revolution may have some connection with green thumbs.

  C. The green-eyed monster was probably created by William Shakespeare.

After years of research and test, the hybrid car was developed and put on the market. It抯 an interesting and exciting new improvement in today抯 quality of the air we breathe and save our natural resources.

The quality of our air is affected by many different things. rsbut one of the largest sources of air pollution is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and gas which are used to power a car抯 engine. The epa has set national standards to help control the level of harmful pollutants sent off into the air, and the aurtomobile industry has acted by producing a hybrid car that uses less gas and therefore causes less pollution.

牋 A hybrid car is a combination of a regular car that runs on gas and an electric car that is battery powered. Some people tend to think that sinrce the hybrid car is partly electric, you have to plug it in to charge it. But that’s not how it works. Through the energy that is produced when the car’s brakes are used. This is referred to as “regenerative braking(再生制动),” because it generates electricity.

Although the hybrid car still runs on gas most of the time, this helps it use less gas than a regular car. when a driver stops at a traffic light, the engine automatically shuts off to save fuel. Then, as soon as the driver puts the car in gear(处于正常工作状态)and touches the gas pedal, the engine starts back up.

Have you ever ridden in a car with someone who ran out of gas? That probably would not happen if you were riding in a hybrid car. It flashed a warning reading: ?You are now out of gas!?Then the electric power supply energy in to let the driver travel a few more miles to a gas station.

wi67.According to the passage, the underlined word “hybrid” (in paragraph 1) refers to _____.

  A.a high-tech discovery

  B.energy-saving

  C.a new invention

D.a new kind for the combination of two things

68.“regenerative braking” is an important process of the hybrid car because____________.

A.it allows the car to come to a quick stop

B.it makes the car ride smoother

C.it generates energy to charge the electric motor

D.it can control the speed of the car

69.The epa is important to our environment because __________.

  A.they designed hybrid cars

B.they forbade the burning of fossil fuels

C.they set important rules that help control pollution

D.their main purpose is to produce non-polluting cars

70.which of the following is the reason for developing hybrid cars?

A.they use less gas than regular cars.

B.they’re safer to drive than most cars.

C.they’re more modern than other cars.

D.they cost less than regular cars.

  书面表达

Lunch reading activity has been smoothly launched in Tie Yi senior high recently. Many students think highly of it while others hold the opposite opnion. Is lunch reading well worth our time? This question really deserves our consideration.

As far as I am concerned, ervery coin has two sides. So does Lunch Reading. On the one hand, Lunch Reading is a complementary study to Morning Reading which, undoubtedly, does good to language study.. Besides, it is interesting to read extra materials which can not only enlarge our vocabulary but also widen our knowledge. Moreover, by reading aloud, our brains become more alert so that we won’t get sleepy in the coming class. On the other hand, in order to take part in lunch reading, we are requested to arrive at school ten minutes earlier which we can use to have a rest instead. Therefore, it is a delemma to make such a choice.

However, weighing the advantages and disadvantages of lunch reading, we can natually arrive at the conclusion that this activity is beneficial and rewarding for our study.
