Music was a constant presence in my childhood home. Sunday lunches, housework, homework, and afternoons in the garden. It was a rush of Van Morrison, Supertramp, Kate Bush and so on, and all three of us could sing their songs.

Some moments seem scored on my memory, my dad playing sixteen Candles on my birthday, a school morning with my mum as she played Phil Collins’s No Jacket Required. And when I stop to consider it now, I see how much music has shaped and strengthened my relationship with my parents.

I often think it was my mum who gave me lyrics(歌词), a delight in the sound, color and weight of words. My dad gave me music, jazz, blues and rock. He would take me to record markets, where I would stand quietly among the rows and listen to the beautiful music. He would make me CDs, send me messages about his latest favorite music, and greet my return home saying, “have you heard the new Kanye, Jame?”

My dad and I are still talking about music. When I went home recently, we sat at the kitchen table having supper while he explained what he loved about music. And when my parents went to see Bon Iver play in Manchester this autumn, he emailed me the following morning to express his feelings about the show.

It was my mum who introduced my dad to music. Some time around 1970 she bought a CD in Manchester and forced him to listen to it. Even since, music has been a support in our family.

When I was young, Mom was often sick and didn’t make much money. We seldom went anywhere special except at those times that some generous adults stepped in to brighten our horizons.

One of my favorite memories of my early years was when I was a second grade. My teacher, also my best friend’s aunt, took us two girls to a neighboring city for a day. While in the city that day, I remember seeing a beautiful show of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer books. I longed for the books. Of course, I couldn’t buy one—I only had a little pocket change. That day we rode an elevator and were taken to see a Disney movie after eating in a restaurant—it was a tiny unforgettable day.

Another time my aunt, a dry old woman who went out about as seldom as our family did, took me to the movie. I can’t remember the movie’s name but I do remember it was a unique experience to see a long movie on such a wide screen.

Other times, relatives took me to attend a carnival(狂欢节) or I was invited to a neighbor’s home to watch some musical program when TVs were not situated in every living room.

Had it not been for all those kind people allowing me to participate in their lives, I would have grown up completely ignorant(无知) of the world outside our little house and country school. Today, most children enjoy a variety of experiences. In our time it was different. It was only through the kindness of others that I was able to share in experiences I would otherwise never have had..

  67. Why did the author seldom go anywhere when she was young?

  A. It was not safe for the girls to go out.

  B. The transportation was not convenient.

  C. Her family couldn’t pay for her travel.

  C. Her parents were afraid that she would get lost

  68. Who has ever taken the author to watch the book on show?

  A. Her aunt

  B. A teacher

  C. A neighbor

  D. Her parents

  69. What does the underlined word “situated” in the fourth paragraph probably mean?

  A. Laid

  B. Watched

  C. Gained

  D. Settled

  70. What does the author mainly want to tell us in the last passage?

  A. Most children today enjoy their life at home.

  B. The life in the past is poor and terrible,

  C. The people in the past are ignorant.

  D. The author felt grateful to the kind.

If we have the power, we can help to build our country and enjoy life better.

In order to study well, we need to do sports so that we can keep fit. We can go running, play ball games or simply take a walk after a day’s study. By the way, we also should have a balanced diet to keep us fit and healthy.

I am sure if we do above those things well, we will be able to grow up happily and healthily.
