A
All areas of the world face a nurses shortage.
But the shortage is most severe in developing countries.
Many of their nurses move to the more developed nations for better pay, better working conditions and better chances for career development.
For example, nearly 2,000 nurses left the Caribbean between 2002 and 2006.
The Caribbean nations currently have about 1 nurse for every 1,000 people.
The ratio(比例) of nurses to population is about 10 times higher in the United States and countries in the European Union(EU).
Now, more than 21,000 nurses who trained in the Caribbean are working in the United States, Canada and Britain.
Gaetan Lafortune is an official of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(O. E. C. D) in Paris.
He says the nurses shortage also affects industrialized countries.
He says, “There is concern in most O. E. C. D. countries that the number of nurses is too small to meet the demand.
And what is more worrying is that their concern is sort of growing. ” Mr Lafortune says a large number of nurses are expected to retire within the next 10 years.
At the same time, the health care needs of aging populations are expected to grow, intensifying the shortage of nurses.
Gaetan Lafortune said, “In the U. S. , for instance, some researchers have found that there may be a shortage of close to a million nurses by 2020. ” The United States is 1 of the 21 countries in the O. C. E. D.
Gaetan Lafortune says in the recent years many of the countries increased their efforts to hire foreign nurses.
As a result of that, O. E. C. D.
countries were mainly exporting their shortage problem to countries that may have an even greater need for these nurses.
56.What will be the main causes of the global nurses shortage in the next 10 years?
A. The demand for nurses will decrease.
B. Many nurses will be too old to work.
C. Many rich countries will hire more foreign nurses.

Books which give instructions on how to do things are very popular in the United States today.
Thousands of these “How to” books are available; in fact, there are about four thousand books with titles that begin with the words “How to”.
One book may tell you how to earn more money, another may tell you how to save or spend it, and another may explain how to give your money away. Many “How to” books give advice on careers (职业).

In an age dominated (控制的) by new media and the Internet, there are so many alternative ways of learning.Gone are the days when, if we couldn't make it into a classroom, the only real option was to pick up a book, or when audio materials consisted of bad quality cassettes or sporadic(时有时无的) radio and TV programmes. With the appearance of broadband access to the web, we have a whole new learning domain (统领) at our fingertips.Sophisticated learning materials in the form of text or high-quality audio are now available at the touch of a button, and tests and assignments can be submitted (进行) and marked online.Questions and learning, studying away from the classroom has never seemed easier.Yet many teachers would argue that face-to-face contact between teachers and students is an essential part of the language learning experience.Enter the concept of blended (融合的) learning, an approach to education which seeks to combine the best of new technology and actual human contact.
Advocates of blended learning argue that an approach to study which combines the benefits of new technology with the best aspects of face-to-face (often abbreviated to F2F) teaching, will achieve better results. For example, there are some aspects of study, like practical sessions, dealing with more subjective questions, or meeting the needs of an individual student, which require face-to-face human interaction, whereas the more mechanical aspects of learning, such as answers to clear-cut questions, can be managed simply and effectively in a remote environment using new technology.
Blended learning approaches have proven especially appropriate in language learning. For example, in an ELT (English Language Teaching ) environment, a simple scenario (剧情概要) might be a classroom session where a teacher asks a group of students to use a wiki to create a text. Students then go away and compose and edit the text remotely.During the next F2F session, the teacher express his opinion about their work.
63.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Blended learning is an effective learning approach.
B.More and more people will use Internet-based learning materials,
C.There are so many different ways of learning for people to choose in today's world.
D.Blended learning methods have proven to be effective except in language learning.
64.Which of the following aspects of study doesn't require face-to-face interaction between teachers and students?
A.Practical sessions.
B.Tackling the needs of an individual student.
C.Dealing with more subjective questions. D.Providing answers to clear-cut questions.
65.It can be inferred from the passage that ______.
A.the radio and TV in the past were of poor quality
B.people do not get audio materials through cassettes nowadays
C.it was not convenient for people to leam outside a classroom in the past
D.it was difficult to find a classroom with good learning conditions in the old days
66.Which of the following can be best describe the writer's attitude towards blended learning?
A.Critical.
B.Objective (客观的).
C.Supportive.
D.Neutral (中立的) .

At Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, the lights are controlled by sensors that measure sunlight.
They dim immediately when it’s sunny and brighten when a passing cloud blocks the sun.
A wall of windows at a University of Pennsylvania engineering building has built-in blinds (百叶窗) controlled by a computer program that follows the sun’s path.
Buildings are getting smarter and the next generation of building materials is expected to do even more.
Windows could catch the sun’s energy to heat water.
Sensors that measure the carbon dioxide breathed out by people in a room could determine whether the air conditioning needs to be turned up.
Many new materials and technology have been designed in the last 15 years.
They are now being used in a wave of buildings designed to save as much energy as possible.
They include old ideas, like “green roofs”, where a belt of plants on a roof helps the building keep heat in winter and stay cool in summer, and new ideas, like special coating for windows that lets light in, but keeps heat out.
As technologies such as sensors become cheaper, their uses spread.
The elevators at Seven World Trade Center, which is under construction in New York, use a system that groups people traveling to nearby floors into the same elevator, thus saving elevator stops.
People who work in the building will enter it by swiping (刷) ID cards that will tell the elevators their floor, readouts will then tell them which elevator to use.
The building also has windows with a coating that blocks heat while letting in light.
More new building materials and technology are in development.
A Philadelphia building firm is now working on “smart wrap” that uses tiny solar collectors to catch the sun’s energy and transmitters (传输器) as wide as a human hair to move it.
They are expected to change the face of the construction industry in the next ten years or so.
67.
________ will be developed and used in the construction industry.
A. “Green roofs” that cool or heat buildings
B. “Smart wrap” that catches the sun’s energy
C. Sunlight-measuring sensors that control lights
D. Window coating that lets light in, but keeps heat out

B. smart wrap
C. the sun’s energy
D. a transmitter
70. What might be the most suitable title for the text?
A. Buildings Are Becoming Smarter
B. Buildings Are Getting More Sunlight
C. Buildings Are Lacking in Much Energy
D. Buildings Are Using Cheaper Materials
五、任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
It all began with . . .
Orlando Bloom was not a “good” student in school.
Because of dyslexia, a reading and writing disorder (障碍), he struggled in many courses.
But Bloom says the dyslexia gave him the
to overcome (克服) his difficulties.
In an interview with the Telegraph, the 32-year-old said the condition turned him into an ambitious person.
“Because of the dyslexia, I always thought I had to work twice as hard as everyone else just to go the same distance,” he said.
“That gave me a real kick as a kid and a lot of encouragement later on.
In one sense, I guess that I'm grateful (感激的). ”
Bloom is always (充分地) when it comes to an audition (试镜) for a part.
Perhaps this is what won him his role in the Lord of the Rings, a highly successful film trilogy (三部曲).
“I really prepared it thoroughly for the audition and it's paid off,” he said.
It was the beginning of a fame that led to even greater success as a movie actor.
But unlike some young people who aim for fame and fortune, Bloom believed an acting career “has been fulfilling (实现) his childhood fantasies”.
“Aged 9, I had this girlfriend and we used to have running races in the park to see who would be her boyfriend for the day.
I wanted to be like Superman and fly in and rescue her.
Once I realized Superman was an actor, I thought, ‘That's for me''. ”
Bloom has always played special characters, like a knight (骑士) and a prince.
It's difficult to picture him in everyman roles.
In October, Bloom was named Goodwill Ambassador (亲善大使) for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
His first task will be to film a documentary about the importance of clean water supplies.
In fact, Bloom started work for the UNICEF in 2007.
On his first visit to Nepal, he was asked by students to take a small part in a play they were performing on local radio.
