  第三部分阅读理解(共20 小题,每小题2分,满分40分)

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A, B, C和D)中,选出最佳选项.并在答且卡上将该项涂黑。

  A

Have you ever hated anyone? Well, probably you don’t really hate them. But you do get angry the moment you think of them. If you don’t get out of the anger, it may turn into bitterness(积怨).

Bitterness can come about when we can’t forgive someone who has hurt us or made us angry. Someone might say or do something that hurts us. But we keep it deep inside instead of working through the anger. Before long, a bitter feeling begins to grow. The bitterness shows when we constantly criticize the one who hurt us. We may think we are hurting that person, but we are really only hurting ourselves.

Bitterness is a harmful emotion that affects the whole body. It can lead to serious health problems such as high blood pressure. Bitterness can stop us from concentrating on important things. Instead, we waste time thinking about how we have been hurt. Finally, holding on to bitterness can hurt our relationships with friends and family members. No one enjoys being around an angry, negative person for very long.

Author Chuck Swindoll once said, “ Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it.” That means when someone hurts you, your response is more important than what happened. You can choose to let go of hurt. You can also choose to hold on to hurt, which results in bitterness.

If you see bitterness in your life, here are some ways to deal with it.

  Stop making excuses for it.

You may feel you have a right to be angry. You may even secretly enjoy making the other person look sad. But in the end, bitterness hurts you much more than the other person.

  Forgive and forget it.

The best thing you can do is to forgive and forget. You probably can’t totally put the act out of your mind. But you can decide to forgive the other person. Let it go and move on. You’ll enjoy better health and peace of mind.

  56. If we don’t release anger, _________.

  A. We will always be criticized and hurt

  B. We will not blame others for any reason

  C. A bitter feeling will develop in our mind

  D. We will not be particular about what others do

  57. The main idea of Paragraph 3 is _________.

  A. The relationships hurt by bitterness.

  B. The illness caused by bitterness

  C. The reaction of an angry person

  D. The negative effects of bitterness

  58. The author advises us to do the following EXCEPT _________.

  A. to hold on to bitterness inside us

  B. to forgive the one who hurts you C. to stop making excuses for the bitterness

  D. to forget others’ rude behavior

  59. By forgiving others, we are able to _________.

  A. prevent bad things from happening

  B. be friends with the person who hurts us

  C. forget the bitter experience completely

  D. enjoy good health and a peaceful mind

  B

About 21,000 young people in 17 American states do not attend classes in school buildings. Instead, they receive their elementary(初等) and high school education by working at home on computers. The center for Education Reform says the United States has 67 public "cyberschools," and that is about twice as many as two years ago.

牋牋 The money for students to attend a cyberschool clyomes from the governments of the states where they live. Some educators say cyberschools爎eceive money that should support traditional public schools. They also say it is difficult to know if students are learning well. 牋牋 Other educators praise this ne clw form of education for letting students work at their own speed. These people say cyberschools help students who were unhappy or unsuccessful in traditional schools. They say learning at home by computer ends long bus rides for children who live far from school. 牋牋 Whatever the judgment of cyberschools, they are getting more and more popular. For example, a new cyberschool called Commonwealth Connections Academy will take in students this fall. It will serve children in the state of Pennsylvania from agm es five through thirteen. 牋牋 Children get free equipment for their online education. This includes a computer, a printer, books and technical services. Parents and students talk with teachers by telephone or by sending emails through their computers whem n necessary. 牋牋 Students at cyberschools usually do not know one another. But 56 such students finished studies at Western Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School recently met for the first time. They were guests of honour at their graduation. r

  60. What do we know from the text about students of a cyberschool?

  A. They have to take long bus rides to school. B. They study at home rather than in classrooms. C. They receive money from traditional public schools. D. They do well in traditional school programs.

  61. What is a problem with cyberschools?

  A. Their equipment costs a lot of money. B. They get little support from the state government. C. It is hard to know students' progress in learning. D. The students find it hard to make friends.

  62. Cyberschools are getting popular because _____.

  A. they are less expensive for students B. their students can work at their own speed C. their graduates are more successful in society D. they serve students in a wider age range

  63. We can infer that the author of the text is _____.

  A. unprejudiced in his description of cyberschools B. excited about the future of cyberschools C. doubtful about the quality of cyberschoois D. disappointed at the development of cyberschools

  C

It’s good to make mistakes, and here is why.

First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, how can you improve? How can you expand? The simple answer is “You can’t”. Look around you. With very few exceptions, either everything you see in your physical world or every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new.

Another good thing about mistakes is this: When you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10,000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.

Finally, when you make a mistake you are much closer to success. Why?

Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some number of things before you succeeded. Every time you make a mistake you eliminate one of those things and are one step closer.

But this all doesn’t mean that you should go ahead without considering the consequences of a mistake. Quite the contrary, when you try something new you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it doesn’t work out the way you want it to, you will be in a position to try again.

We all have limited resources in the form of time and money so don’t blow them all on one approach to a problem. Realize that it probably won’t be perfect the first time and allocate (分配) these resources appropriately so you can learn, make corrections, and try it again. Only by accepting and using your mistakes in this way can you make significant advances in your business and your career.

There is an old saying that goes, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.”

So go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And prosper(成功).

6.From the second paragraph, we can conclude that _______.

  A. mistakes are unnecessary for development B. we are afraid of trying new thing

  C. it’s common for people to make mistakesD. mistakes are better than not trying 6.The underlined word “eliminate” means _______.

  A. avoid

  B. remove

  C. acceptD. solve 6.According to the article, one thing you should pay attention to about making mistakes is

  .

  A. avoiding making the same mistakes

  B. accepting the punishment willingly

  C. taking consequences into account

  D. trying things out one by one

.What would the writer probably suggest we say to ourselves when we make a mistake?

  A. Never mind, I can always try again.

  B. I’d better stay out of trouble.

  C. Ok! Now I can learn something. D. Look at this mess. Anyone would be upset.

One evening I went out and left my 17-year-old son and his girlfriend in charge of his 8-year-old brother and 4-year-old sister. I left with complete confidence that the older children would do a wonderful job of babysitting the younger children. Later, I discovered that I was completely wrong.

I had decided to return home earlier than planned so that my son and his girlfriend could go out. I called home with this happy news. But instead of hearing his cheerful, grateful voice on the other end of the line, all I heard was the sound of a telephone ringing.

It was, I should point out, after 10 p.m., when the two younger children should have been in bed, and when the two older children should have been answering the phone. “I’ll give him a lesson, ” I said.I decided they must be outside. Why they might be outside at 10:30 on a winter night I had no idea, but it was the only explanation I could come up with.

Finally, in desperation(绝望), I called his girlfriend’s house. His girlfriend answered.“Yes,” she said brightly, “He’s right here.”

He came on the phone.I was not my usual calm, patient. After all, one of the rules of survival for modern parents is that you can’t trust modern teenagers. “Where are the children?” I said. He said they were with him. They had done nothing wrong. My son had taken the younger children over to his girlfriend’s house just for ice cream and cake. Well, it turns out that I shouldn’t have believed it.It was only part of the truth.

The following Saturday evening we were at my parents’ home, celebrating my birthday. My oldest son gave me the children’s gifts --- a series of lovely color photographs of my children, dressed in their best clothes, and wearing their most wonderful expressions. They are pictures to treasure a lifetime, all taken by the father of my son’s girlfriend.

  68. The author went out and left her eldest son in charge of the younger children because

  _____.

  A. she knew that his girlfriend was a good baby-sitter

  B. she believed he could take good care of the younger ones with the help of his girlfriend

  C. the older children have always loved the younger ones

  D. she could not find a baby-sitter on that winter night

  69. Shortly after the author left home one evening, she discovered that _____.

  A. her son had brought his girlfriend home

  B. her son had left home with his girlfriend

  C. she shouldn’t have completely trusted her son

  D. she should have taken the children along with her

  70. “It was only part of the truth.” implies that the children not only enjoyed ice-cream but also _____.

  A. had their pictures taken B. received some gifts

  C. had a birthday party

  D. showed off their best clothes
