  第三部分

  阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)

  第一节

  (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。

  A

Liu Yihe is a 10-year-old pupil in Grade 3 of Nanjing Hanjiang Road Primary School. Huber is a 24-year-old sophomore(大学二年级学生)of European Commercial University, Germany. They are 9000 km away from each other and their age gap is 14 years. Knowing the “International Inter Program” founded by Nanjing Foreign Cultural Exchange Center, Liu Yihe tried hard to become a candidate for Civilian Ambassador of Foreign Cultural Exchange of Nanjing and his family is selected as the first home-stay family.

As the first international intern of the program, Huber came to stay in Liu Yihe’s house since June 15th last year and has formed a close bond with the Liu family.

Though Liu Yihe is only 10 years old, he has his own method in teaching Huber Tang Poems. He explains the sentences of the poems in details and shows how to pronounce the tones to Huber.

“I also teach him Chinese songs.” Liu and Huber sang a children’s song named “Looking for My Friend” for the reporter. It is funny to see the boys sing songs hand in hand, clapping and leaping.

However, there is still language obstacle between them. Liu’s vocabulary is limited, but he has smart ways. For example, once Liu wanted to tell Huber that ancient Chinese wrote on bamboo slips but he did not know how to say “bamboo”. A bright idea flashed through his mind, then he asked Huber what panda ate. So the problem is solved.

Huber, who is inspired by the experience, has decided to teach children of immigrant workers(农民工)English in his spare time to repay the goodness of Nanjing people.

  56. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

  A. Home-stay Affects Foreigners

  B. How to Teach Foreign Chinese

  C. A German students studying Chinese in Nanjing

  D. Friendship Between a German Student and a Nanjing Pupil

  57. The underlined word “candidate” in Paragraph 1 means___________

  A. a person who likely to go abroad

  B. a person regarded as suitable for a position

  C. a person knowing how to teach foreigners

  D. a person selected to take a special examination

58.What is the author’s attitude towards Liu Yihe?

  A. Praiseful

  B. Shocked

  C. Dissatisfied

  D. Uninterested

  B

Imagine for a moment one of those nights when you just can’t fall asleep and you have to get up early the next morning for a very important meeting of which you are the keynote speaker. Your alarm clock goes off early in the morning, waking you from what little sleep you had. You stumble out of bed, have a quick shower, grab a coffee and some toast, and off to fight the traffic on the way to work.

Does that sound like the start of a terrible day? Most would answer “yes”. Few people, however, would answer “no”. There are the people who are, in my opinion, blessed with a gift. A gift that determines how they view their life. These people live with “an attitude of gratitude”. For them, the situation described could be worse. Much worse. For example, think of the man who doesn’t have a bed, let alone a roof over his head. When he is awoken from what little sleep he is able to get, it is by the train falling on his cold body. He stumbles to his feet and begins his journey to work in his bare feet. His work is in the field of survival. He searches through garbage cans for scraps of half-rotten food to eat and odd bits of clothes to keep him warm.

The purpose of this example is to show that we all have so much to be grateful for. Even in times when it seems that nothing could be worse, there is always a reason to be grateful. And when you feel a sense of gratitude, you feel a sense of happiness and content. My challenge to you today is to learn to look for the good in every situation and live with “an attitude of gratitude”.

59.The author gives the example in the first two paragraphs to show that_______

  A. modern people are just too busy

  B. a lot of people have sleep problems

  C. a lot of people are carried away by the fast pace of modern life

  D. we have a lot to feel grateful for

  60. The author would probably agree that_________

  A. we should have the ability to turn every bad situation to our advantage

  B. we should look for the good in every situation no matter how bad it is

  C. it is difficult for people to learn to feel grateful in life

  D. it is impossible to feel grateful in times when nothing could be worse

  61. The purpose of the passage is to ______________

  A. describe a common sense in life

  B. make a suggestion to the readers

  C. analyze the benefit of gratitude

  D. argue against a common belief

  C

  General Airport Tips

Plan to get to the airport at least an hour early, or two during holidays and other busy times; this will pay off with a major reduction of stress. If all goes well, you will have time to relax, shop for last-minute items, or have a meal before the flight.

  Flight Delays

Find out why you flight is delayed. Call the toll-free number. Find out if other airlines are experiencing similar delays.

If you believe the delay is due to something other than weather or air traffic problems, then mention your suspicion(怀疑) and ask the airline agent to book you on the next available flight, either on the same airline or a competing one. This is called “Rule 240”, and all airlines are required to do it. Use the lingo(行话); ask, “Can you 240 me?” when speaking with an agent. They will know what you mean.

  Flight Cancellations

If your flight is canceled, then make a reservation(预约) on the next flight to your destination. Usually, airline personnel will try to book everyone on their next flight out. Often they will put you on a competitor’s next flight only if you request it.

If on-time arrival is important to you, when you check flights through our reservation system you can rate your choices base on their on-time arrival records. Be sure to also check the weather conditions, as they often affect flight schedules(日程表)

  Getting Bumped

To avoid getting bumped(不能登机), you must be at the loading gate at least 10 minutes ahead of scheduled departure for a U.S. flight, 20 minutes to/from Bahamas, Canada, and Mexico and 30 to/from all other international points. You must be at the loading gate, not the airport entrance.

  D

When animals and plants use color to be noticed, it is called advertising coloration(着色). Advertising coloration can be used to either warn or attract animals.

The bright colors of flowers and berries are advertising coloration that attracts animals. Flowers need to be pollinated(对。。。授粉)to reproduce. Bees and hummingbirds are attracted to bright colors and will pollinate the flowers. Some pollinated plants will produce berries. These berries will turn a bright color when they are ripe. The bright color lets berry-eating birds know the fruit is sweet and safe to eat. After birds eat the berries, the seeds will pass through their digestive system and be left behind. Some of the seeds left behind will grow into new plants.

Color is also used to attract mates(配偶). Many male birds like the northern cardinal are brightly colored to attract females. Bright feathers can be a sign of how healthy the bird is! Female birds are naturally attracted to healthier males because their offspring will be healthier. Female birds are often less colorful. This helps hide them when they are nesting.

Advertising color is also used to warn animals away. The ladybug has bright orange wings with black spots. Its coloring warns meat-eating animals that the ladybug tastes terrible. The striped skunk(臭鼬)has white strips that are a warning to meat-eating animal that they may be in for a nasty surprise if they try to attack.

Some animals, like the red-eyed tree frog, may scare predators away with their color. Red-eyed tree frogs sleep during the day. If a meat-eating animal came up to them and they opened their eyes, the bright red color of their eyes might shock the predator long enough to give the red-eyed frog time to hop away to safety!

  66. The writer wrote his text mainly to tell us__________

  A. animals and plants use color to either warn or attract animals

  B. what the accurate definition of the advertising coloration is

  C. animals use various ways to protect themselves from being attacked

  D. plants can also use color to keep other animals or plants away

  B. e-c-a-b-f-d

  C. f-d-c-e-a-b

  68. What kind of color shows that advertising coloration can be used to warn animals?

  How to Be Popular

There are popular people all over the world, enjoying their social status at school, work, and wherever they go. 4. Give a helping hand. Popular people don’t just know everyone. They’re on good terms with everyone. They establish those terms by helping people out.__74__ If you truly have sympathy for people, you’ll want things to work out for them. If there’s nothing you can do to help, at the very least, let them know that you’re hoping the best for them.
