  第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。A

If you are asked to name some national emblems of China, the dragon will probably be one of the famous images that pop into your head. We Chinese often consider ourselves "the descendants(后代)of the dragon." It is not unfamiliar to you that your parents hope that you "may become the dragon".   As a mythicalcreature, the dragon is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Traditionally, dragons are considered to govern rainfall. They have the power to decide where and when the rain falls. In addition, the dragon is a symbol of imperial(帝王的)power. The emperors thought they were real dragons and the sons of the heaven.   the creature is regarded differently in Western countries. In the Bible, dragons represent the devil(恶人). Western people usually see dragons as cold-blooded reptiles(爬虫), like snakes and cruel killers. In their eyes, dragons are also dishonest. ragons in Western literature are presented as monsters(怪物). It is a common tale for a mediaeval knight(中世纪的骑士)to kill a dragon and save a princess and her country from its evil. Even the popular boy wizard Harry Potter has to battle against a dragon.    However, dragons are not all bad in the West. "Puff the Magic Dragon" is a well-known song. The lyrics tell a bitter-sweet story of the dragon Puff and his playmate Jackie Paper, a little boy. When Jackie grows up, he loses interest in the imaginary adventures of childhood and leaves Puff upset. Puff represents the innocence(天真无邪)of a child's imagination, which is very positive for a dragon.  “emblems” in the first paragraph means “_______”.

  A. symbols

  B. names

  C. places

  D. parks

  57. What is a dragon presented as according to Western literature?

  A. A wizard

  B. A mediaeval knight

  C. A princess

  58. The writer gave the example of “ Puff the Magic Dragon” to show_____.

  A. dragons can represent the innocence of child’s imagination

  B. children don’t like to play with dragons

  C. dragons are not all bad in the West

  D. not all people in the West like dragons

  B

People come in all shapes and sizes, colors and races (种族). Some speak differently while others act differently.

My mother is in a wheelchair. I would like to say something about this special woman I call "Mommy".

My mom does what a mom needs to do every day. She picks me up from school, drives me to meetings, cooks dinner, and helps me with my homework. This is just part of what makes her greatthough.

She is my best friend and can immediately notice when I am unhappy. She helps me solve problems that my friends do not understand. Mommy makes me laugh when times are tough. I look forward to coming home because I know there is someone there who cares about what I have done.

Mommy has always tried to be like a "normal" mom. But I think my mother is a wonderful woman and she doesn’t need to change. She teaches me life lessons that no teacher or friend can. She shows me how to accept everyone for what is inside, rather than what is on the outside.

You may have realized that all the qualities (品质) I admire have nothing to do with what she looks like. Everyone could be the way she is,but most are not.

I want everyone to look beyond the surface(表面) and see what is inside others. You may fail to notice someone who is very special like my mom because you cannot accept their outside features. 59. What’s the function(功能)of Paragraph 1?

  C

Before I started school, people felt that I was not going to be successful. At the age of four I started speech lessons because basically I could not speak well enough for anyone to understand me. The story goes downhill from here.

The first grade was a struggle. I not only had difficulty speaking, but also felt nervous about the fact that I was expected to learn to read and I just couldn't do it. The second grade was not much better. I still struggled with the inability to read. It was in the third grade that the school district built a new school close to my home. I remember going there with my parents and helping to get the school ready so that we could move to the new one. However, things were still not much better as far as my schooling was concerned and did not get better for the next two years.

It was in the fifth grade. Mrs. Wakefield was my teacher, and if ever there was a teacher that deserved a gold star, it was her. She did not make me feel defeated. On the contrary, she did her best to let me know that I could be whatever I wanted to be. And that is just what I did.

For the past 22 years, I have been a fifth grade teacher. Because of Mrs. Wakefield's influence on my life, I am now encouraging students who have had difficulties in their lives to believe that they can overcome any difficulty and become someone. I have won numerous awards up to now, such as Teacher of the Year. I owe it all to one fifth grade teacher who believed in me and challenged me to be all that I could be.

  64. The writer ______ when he was in the third grade.

  A. did better in reading

  B. began speech lessons

  C. went to a new school

  D. received a high award

. We can learn from the passage that the writer ______.

  A. is a very successful teacher now

  B. thinks teaching is a challenging job

  C. has solved problems with his own effort

  D. works in the same school with Mrs. Wakefield

  66. What is the writer's purpose(目的)in writing the passage?

  A. To express his devotion(投入)to his work.

  B. To show his respect to a special teacher.

  C. To share his teaching experience with us.

  D. To tell us his story of overcoming difficulties.

  D

Father was in the army all through the First World War, so up to the age of five, I never saw much of him, and what I saw did not worry me. Sometimes I woke and there was a big figure(身影) looking down at me. Sometimes in the early morning I heard the closing of the front door and the sound of shoes walking down. These were father’s entrances and exits. Each time he went away, he left me lots of presents—model tanks, knives and all sorts of military(军队的)equipment which he put in a long box. When he was not there, mother let me get a chair and search through his treasures. She did not seem to think so highly of them as he did.

The war was the most peaceful period of my life. Every morning I awoke as soon as it was light and felt myself to be like the sun. Life never seemed so simple and clear and full of possibilities as then. I got up, went into mother’s room and climbed into the big bed. She woke and I began to tell her of my plans. I talked but then fell asleep and woke again only when I heard her below in the kitchen, making the breakfast.

I often wondered what mother and I should do all day and what present I would get for Christmas. There was that little problem of the baby, for example. Mother and I could never agree about that. Ours was the only house in the street without a new baby, and mother said we could not buy one until father came back from the war as they were very expensive. That showed how simple she was. The Geneys who lived nearby had a baby, and everybody knew that they had hardly any money at all. Maybe it was a cheap baby, and mother wanted something really good, but I felt this did not really matter. The Geneys’ baby would have been fine for us.

  67. When father was away, mother asked the writer to____.

  A. put the presents aside

  B. go over the presents carefully

  C. get everything ready

  D. throw the presents away

  68. When the writer woke up, he felt that _______ .

  A. life was good

  B. he was simple

  C. life was uninteresting

  D. he was funny

  69. What happened as soon as the writer got into his mother’s bed?

  A. she went to make breakfast

  B. he told her all his plans

  C. she asked him about his plans

  D. he went to sleep

  70. The writer’s mother said they could not have a baby because______.

  A. there was a war on

  B. there were too many babies in the street

  C. it costs a lot of money

  D. father was ill in the army
