He knew the young men well and let nine soldiers go to the nearest town to have a holiday. But night fell and none came back to the camp. He was worried about it and stood at the gate. It was five to twelve when Mr. Hunt decided to go to the town and see what was happening with the young men. He started the car quickly and set off. At that moment the nine soldiers came back. Have you taken inventory(调查)of the stress in your life? Stress can come from work. It can come from family. It can come from the places we live and the lifestyles we choose.

In a recent survey, 60 percent of respondents(被调查者)said the city in which they live is noisier now than five years ago. The other 40 percent? They didn’t hear the question.

How much stress do you feel? Though not all stress should be avoided, too much pressure can cause lasting harm in practically every area of your life. The solution is to take control.

Robert Reich did just that. As Secretary of Labor in the Clinton cabinet(内阁),Robert B. Reich, told of his decision to resign from the stressful job. He said,“I have the best job I’ve ever had and probably ever will. No topping it.”It was true. He seemed to love his job. But he added, 揑 also have the best family Ii’ll ever have, and I can’t get enough of them.擜nd there was the problem 梩oo much of a good thing. He could not give himself to his family and to this particular career at the same time.

So Reich said,揑 had to choose, I told the boss I ri’ll be leaving, and explained why.?His boss, of course, was the president of the United States. And the country took notice. Some people were rsurprised. Here was a high government official who made a decision to step out of an important and powerful position in order to spend more time at home. He took control.

That is the first step to free ourselves from unnecessary stress: take control. Make the hard decision. It may be a decision for less money, a smaller home, a new location, a different job, less prestige(声望),or a simpler lifestyle. But one thing I believe: it will be a decision you will never regret.

  61. According to the passage, where might the stress come from?

  A. Work.

  B. Family.

  C. The place we live and the lifestyles we choose.

  D. All of the above.

  62. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?

  C. Now the city is as noisy as what it was five years ago.

  D. Too much pressure is bad for our health.

  63. Why did Robert Reich decide to resign?

  A. Because he didn’t like his job.

  B. Because his job is not good.

  C. Because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

  D. Because he had found a better job.

  64. The best title for the passage should be

  .

  A. Stress can do harm to our life.

  B. Taking control of stress.

  C. Robert Reich’s decision to resign from the job.

  D. Giving more time to our family.

  65. The author’s attitude to Robert Reich’s resignation is ________ .

  A. worried

  B. supportive

  C. doubtful

  D. surprised

Since this kind of social networking sites have become so popular, people have started to think about moving it into the real world. And so far as we know, a farmland of this kind exists in Shanghai where it has reached its first base.

After playing the 揌appy Farm攇ame on kaixing001.comr,, would you like to put yourself among the real world while smelling the fragrances (芳香) of the countryside? Recently a farmland service called “Happy Farm in Reality” was opened in the suburbs of Shanghai where white-collar workers can experience the real farmers’ for themselves.

  66. What does the underlined word “it攊n Para .5 refer to?

  A. The real world.

  B. Farmland in Shanghai.

  C. The virtual world.

  D. An expensive car.

  A. Millions of people in China are spending lots of time on StNS.

  C. Lots of people play games on SNS to escape from reality.

  D. White-collar workers can have the real farmers’ life.

  A. The number of people using SNS.

  B. The ways to steal vegetables on SNS.

How to protect children Web fans from unsuitable material online while encouraging them to use the Internet has long been discussed in the US.

For some parents, the Internet can seem like a jungle, filled with danger for their children. But jungles contain wonders as well as danger and with good guides, some education, and a number of precautions (预防), the wilds of the Internet can be safely navigated. “Kids have to be online. If we tell our kids they can't be allowed to surf the Internet, we're cutting them off from their future,” said an expert.

Most kids have started to use search engines. Many of them are great for finding tons of interesting Internet sites, and they can also locate places where you might not want your kids to go. There are search engines designed just for kids. A certain software contains only sites that have been selected as safe. The most popular way would be to use what is known as a “content screener”. But this can't be wholly reliable (可靠), and the best thing parents can do is to talk to their kids and let them know what is OK or not OK to see or do on the Internet. Another way is that mum or dad is nearby when the child is surfing the Internet.

  A few other tips:

桪on't put the PC in a child's room but keep it in an area where mum or dad can keep an eye on things. That also msakes the Internet more of a family activity.

桝sk your child what he or she has been doing and about any friends they make online.

桾ell your child not to reveal online strangers personal information, especially like address and phone number.

  And tell youro

children never to talk to anyone they meet online over the phone, send them anything, accept anything from them or agree to meet with them unless you go along.

“Mum, what does it mean when someone tells you that they have a skeleton(骨骼” Jessica asked. “A skeleton in the closet?” her mother paused thoughtfully. “Well, it’s something that you would rather not have anyone else know about. For example, if in the

past, someone in Dad’s family had been arrested for stealing a horse, it would be ‘a skeleton in his family’s closet’. He really wouldn’t want any neighbor to know about it.”

“Why pick on my family?” Jessica’s father said with anger. “Your family history isn’t so good, you know. Wasn’t your great-great-grandfather a prisoner who was transported to Australia for his crimes?” “Yes, but people these days say that you are not a real Australian unless your ancestors arrived as prisoners.” “Gosh, sorry I asked, I think I understand now,” Jessica cut in before things grew worse.

After dinner, the house was very quiet. Jessica’s parents were still quite angry with each other. Her mother was ironing clothes and every now and then she glared at her husband, who hid behind his newspaper pretending to read. When she finished, she gathered the freshly pressed clothes in her arms and walked to Jessica’s closet. Just as she opened the door and reached in to hang a skirt, a bony arm stuck out from the dark depths and a bundle of white bones fell to the floor. Jessica’s mother sank into a faint(晕倒), waking only when Jessica put a cold, wet cloth on her forehead.

She looked up to see the worried faces of her husband and daughter.

“What happened?Where am I?” she asked. “You just destroyed the school’s skeleton, Mum,” explained Jessica. “I brought it home to help me with my health project, I meant to tell you, but it seemed that as soon as I mentioned skeletons and closets, it caused a problem between you and Dad.” Jessica looked in amazement as her parents began to laugh madly. “They’re both crazy.” she thought.

  Dear Linda,

I am sorry to know that you are having a difficult time.

I know it’s hard to start a new life in a strange city. However, just staying at home doing nothing but surf the Internet is not good for you. If so, your parents will be worried about you.

You’d better go out and join in some social activities. By doing this, you can get to know more people around. And it would be a good idea to help others if possible and show them you are open and friendly as well. As time goes on, people will know you better and like to make friends with you. With a little bit of patience and communication, many of these problems can be solved soon
