(2016·太原市第二学段测评)Companies can save millions in healthcare costs simply by encouraging their employees to exercise a little bit.Researchers report that obese employees have higher healthcare costs, but they can lower those expenses by
exercising just a couple of times a week — without even losing any weight.
Feifei Wang and his colleagues at the University of Michigan studied 23,500 workers at General Motors. They estimated that getting the most obese workers to exercise would have saved about $790,000 a year, or about 1.5 percent of healthcare costs for the whole group.Companywide, the potential savings could reach $7.1 million per year, according to their report published in Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Of the whole group of workers, about 30 percent were of normal weight, 45 percent were overweight, and 25 percent were obese. Annual healthcare costs averaged $2,200 for normal weight, $2,400 for the overweight, and $2,700 for obese employees. But among workers who did no exercise, healthcare costs went up by at least $100 a year, and were $3,000
a year for obese employees who were sedentary (久坐的).
But adding two or more days of light exercise — at least 20 minutes of exercise or work hard enough to increase heart rate and breathing — lowered costs by on average $500 per employee a year, the researchers found. “This indicates that physical activity behavior could lessen at least some of the negative effects of excess body fat, and in consequence, help lower the increasing healthcare costs,” Wang and his colleagues wrote.

(2016·豫东、豫北十所名校联考)A new report says almost 900,000 foreign students registered at U.S.universities during the school year 2017-2017.That is an increase of eight percent over the year before.
America has more of the worlds 4.5 million international students than any other country. Nearly half of this record number of foreign students are from Asia, mainly China.
The study also demonstrates that since 2000, the number of international students in the U.S.has grown by 72 percent.Students from China are mainly responsible for this trend.
Eric Xu, a Chinese student at Columbia University, says studying in the U.S.is a valuable experience.
“In the U.S.they emphasize class discussions and your opinion. You can debate with others and with your professor or teacher, and that is an atmosphere I want to experience.”
While attendance by Chinese students rose by almost 17 percent over the past year, other countries also saw a major increase. Kuwait?s college student population rose by 42 percent and that of Brazil, by 22 percent.Other countries with more international students than earlier are Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela.
The report says the Middle East and North African area are the fastest growing in international student population. It shows an increase of 20 percent in students registered at universities.
Rajika Bhandari, a writer of the report, says, “International students contribute significantly to U.S.campuses through their global perspectives and by providing international exposure to those American students who may never have the opportunity to study overseas.”
Evan Ryan, Assistance Secretary of State for Education, says the enrollment (注册,报名) of students from abroad also adds to the U.S.economy through payments for tuition, housing and other costs.
Meanwhile, about 290,000 U.S. students went to study abroad in 2017-2017 for educational credit, and China is at the number five host country for U.S.students,hosting over 14,000 American students.

(2016·平顶山第一次模拟)A restaurant in Tokyo has announced that it will refuse to serve couples on Christmas Eve because their happiness would serve to remind single members of staff of their loneliness. The owner of PiaPia, the restaurant in Tokyo, has placed a handwritten sign in the window of the restaurant that reads, “We will be refusing entry to all couples on December 24, with no exception!”
The message is accompanied by an outline of a male figure in blue and a female figure in red and a heart with a large red cross through the image. The message suggests that the presence of couples would upset employees having to work on Christmas Eve, stating that romantic dates would cause severe emotional hurt to single members of their staff.
Christmas is not celebrated officially in Japan and is a regular working day ahead of the traditional celebrations of the New Year. In recent years, however, Christmas Eve has become an important occasion for young couples to exchange gifts and have a meal together, even if they are largely unaware of the religious significance of the holiday.
People on social media sites are largely applauding the restaurant’s stand against couples, with messages on Twitter and other sites praising, “Good move, Boss! I support you!” and “I wish all restaurants would ban couples on Christmas Eve.”

A.People in Japan dont celebrate Christmas Eve at all.

How Can I Fight Laziness?
Lazy people will never amount to anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind.
__1__ Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.
Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from task to task. Others take a more proactive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone. __2__
Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations (诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. __3__ Complete a few tasks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good dinner or a film.
Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. __4__ Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own task. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people.
__5__ Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits.
A.One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.
B.Knowing how to fight laziness is important.
C.Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness.
D.To fight family laziness, set an example.
E.With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal.
F.Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child.
G.Laziness sets in when you no longer feel in charge of your own life.
