These are some ideas that some people came up with about what the life will be like in the year 2500:

We will have established a base on the moon.School kids can take field trips to the moon weekly. We will have found cures(疗法)for AIDS and cancer. The war will have ended and peace flows freely through the land.Kids will learn more and be smarter than ever before! History will be the main subject at school.Cafeteria(自助餐厅)food will be delicious! You just walk up to a machine, stick out your tongue, and it will scan your taste buds(味蕾)to see what you want to eat.

  —Kristen

Here I am in the wonderful year of 2500 and life is so easy.I work in a pet store and it is so hard! I have to wake up at midnight every day and fly my ear to the store. It takes so long to get there. It takes me 20 seconds to get to the store in Mississippi from my home in Florida! At work,I have to push 5 buttons and then I go home.It takes 2 seconds and that is like forever.

  —Morgan

In the year 2500,I think we will have invented cars that run on things we don't need like garbage.Tail gas will smell like whatever you like such as chocolate.I also predict that buildings will be able to go into a different dimension(维)so your car won't hit them. The cars in 2500 don't fly,for we haven't got that technology yet,but they can hover(盘旋)up to seven feet. These cars are made for speed!

  ——Carly

Instead of cars,we may have hovering devices that float around. We could also have electric cars instead of gas powered cars.Food might be more healthy. What I believe is that

  the

  environment

  will

  change

  the

  most. The environmental changes will

also determine many other changes. If more people try to help the environment, then perhaps in 2500 we will have more forests and wildlife. If people won't help the environment, then we will have no forests and little wildlife left

  —Roberta

Or do newborns simply prefer more to fewer? The same experiment, but with three spots shown before two, shows the same return of interest when the number of spots changes.Perhaps it is just the newness? When slightly older babies were shown cards with pictures of objects(a comb,a key,an orange and so on),changing the number of objects had an effect separate from changing the objects themselves.Could it be the pattern that two things make,as opposed to three? No again.Babies paid more attention to squares moving randomly on a screen when their number changed from two to three,or three to two.The effect even crosses between senses.Babies who were repeatedly shown two spots became more excited when they then heard three drumbeats than when they heard just two;likewise(同样地) when the researchers started with drumbeats and moved to spots.

1.The experiment described in Paragraph 1 is related to the baby’s .

A.sense of hearing B.sense of sight

C.sense of touch D.sense of smell

2.Babies are sensitive to the change in .

  A.the size of cards

  B.the colour of pictures

  C.the shape of patterns

  D.the number of objects

3.Why did the researchers test the babies with drumbeats?()

A.To reduce the difficulty of the experiment.

B.To see how babies recognize sounds.

  C.To carry their experiment further.

  D.To keep the babies’ interest.

4.Where does this text probably come from?()

  A.Science fiction.

  B.Children’s literature.

  C.An advertisement.

  D.A science report.

One morning the old Waterrat put his head out of his hole. The little ducks were swimming about in the pond, and their mother, who was pure white with real red legs, was trying to teach them how to stand on their heads in the water.

“You will never be in the best society unless you can stand on your heads,” she kept saying to them;and every now and then she showed them how it was done. But the little ducks paid no attention to her. They were so young that they did not know what an advantage it is to be in society at all.

“What disobedient children!”cried the old Waterrat,“they really deserve to be drowned.”

“Nothing of the kind,” answered the Duck,“everyone must make a beginning, and parents cannot be too patient.”

“Ah!I know nothing about the feelings of parents,”said the Waterrat,“I am not a family man.In fact,I have never been married, and I never intend to be.Love is all very well in its way,but friendship is much higher.Indeed,I know of nothing in the world that is either nobler or rarer than a devoted friendship.”

“And what, pray,is your idea of the duties of a devoted friend?”asked a Green Linnet, who overheard the conversation.

“Yes,that is just what I want to know,”said the Duck;and she swam away to the end of the pond, and stood upon her head,in order to give her children a good example.

“What a silly question!”cried the Waterrat.“I should expect my devoted friend to be devoted to me,of course.”

“And what would you do in return?” said the little bird, swinging upon a silver spray, and flapping his tiny wings.

“I don’t understand you,” answered the Waterrat.

“Let me tell you a story on the subject,”said the Linnet.

“Is the story about me?”asked the Waterrat.“If so,I will listen to it,for I am extremely fond of fiction.”

“Drink your milk. It’s good for you!” You’ve probably heard that many times, and it’s true.Milk contains calcium, which is a necessary nutrient for keeping bones and teeth healthy and strong. The U.S.government even requires milk as part of the National School Lunch Program, saying that students should drink one cup of fatfree or lowfat milk at each meal.

Last Thursday, however,a group of doctors asked the government to remove milk from the lunch program. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) says,“Milk is high in sugar, high in fat and high in animal protein, all of which have negative effects on health.” “One of the only reasons people talk about dairy,or promote it,is that it is going to help build strong bones,” says Dr.Neal Barnard, president of the PCRM.There are better and healthier ways to get calcium such as eating beans, broccoli, cereals and tofu.Orange juice and soymilk that have calcium added to them also supply the nutrient.

Of course, calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth, but your genes, how much vitamin D you take in and getting an hour’s worth of exercise every day all play a part.

Some nutritionists disagree with the idea that milk isn’t important.Keri Gans,a dietitian, says,“I think it’s irresponsible to take away this beverage that children enjoy, especially among those who are unable to meet their nutrient needs for the day,and remove it from the lunch line.”

The U.S.government is studying the request of the PCRM,but a decision may be a long way off.Meanwhile,Marion Nestle,a professor at New York University, puts it best:“Milk has nutrients.Other foods have the same nutrients. It’s just a food.Like other foods, too much might be a problem.”

1.Why does the US government ask students to drink one cup of milk at lunch time?

A.They have been told many times.

B.They have taken the PCRM’s advice.

C.Fatfree or lowfat milk is less expensive.

D.Milk helps build students’ strong bones.

2.The underlined word “beverage” in Paragraph 4 most probably means “

  ”.

  A.gene

  B.idea

  C.milk

  D.lunch

3.What can we learn from Marion Nestle’s words?

A.Milk has more nutrients than other foods.

B.Milk is just a kind of common food.

C.Other foods also contain much calcium.

D.Too much nutrient lies in other foods.

4.What does the above text mainly talk about?

A.The best way to get the most calcium.

B.The connection between milk and health.

C.Different opinions about the importance of milk.

D.Whether to take milk off the schoollunch menu.

根据第一段中的“Milk contains calcium, which is a necessary nutrient for keeping bones and teeth healthy and strong.”

If a monkey takes a photograph, who owns the rights to it?The monkey or the owner or the camera?

That’s the question being discussed all over the Internet about this toothy selfie:a monkey “took” of itself with photographer David Slater’s camera.

Slater traveled to Indonesia in 2011 to get the perfect image of a black monkey. One of the monkeys came to check out his camera and took hundreds of photos of itself.

“They were quite naughty, jumping all over my equipment, and it looked like they were already posing for the camera when one hit the button,”Slater said.“The sound got his attention and he kept pressing it.At first it scared the rest of them away but they soon came back—it was amazing to watch.”

Most of the photos were unclear, but one of them was a cute selfportrait of a monkey appearing to grin.

Now the image has been uploaded to Wikimedia and Slater is not pleased. He has asked Wikimedia to remove the image from its pages because he owns the rights to it.It is included in Wikimedia Commons that is a collection of over 22 million images and videos that are free to use online and allows other websites to use it free of charge,it is harming his right to make money from “his” photo.

But Wikimedia says that because the monkey pressed the button to take the photo,Slater does not own the right to the photo and it is uncopyrightable.

Copyright law states that animals cannot own copyrights.“The term ‘authorship’ implies that, for a work to be copyrightable,it must owe its origin to a human being.Materials produced only by nature,by plants,or by animals are not copyrightable.”

Slater argues that the image was not produced only by monkey because a monkey pressed a button, but he did all the setting up.

“If the monkey took it,it owns the copyright, not me;that’s Wikimedia’s basic argument. What they don’t realize is that it needs a court to decide that.I’ve told them it’s not public domain, they’ve got no right to say that it’s public domain.”explained Slater.

1.We can infer that a monkey took photos of itself

  .

  A.for pleasure

  B.on purpose

  C.by accident

  D.with the help of Salter

2.What made Salter angry with Wikimedia?

A.It uses images without paying money for their owners.

B.It collects images and videos without his permission.

C.It connects an image library to other websites.

D.It allows people to use the monkey’s selfie for free.

3.Salter claimed the right of the monkey’s selfie because

  .

A.he created a background for the monkey to take photos

B.he taught the monkey how to press the button correctly

C.he prepared the camera for the monkey in advance

D.he guided the monkey to take a photo of itself

  4.The last paragraph implies that

  .

  A.Wikimedia isn’t available for everyone

B.Slater may seek law to win his rights

C.the monkey has right of the selfie image

D.the copyright matters a lot to public domain

根据第四段的“‘...it looked like they were already posing for the camera when one hit the button,’ Slater said.‘The sound got his attention and he kept pressing it.’”

结合第六段的“...that are free to use online and allows other websites to use it free of charge,it is harming his right to make money from‘his’ photo.”

从倒数第二段的“...because a monkey pressed a button,but he did all the setting up.”

根据最后一段的“What they don’t realize is that it needs a court to decide that.”
