  VII.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

  A

we were asked exactly what we were doing a year ago, we should probably have to say that we could not remember. But if we had kept a book and written in it an account of what we did each day, we should be able to give an answer to the question.

It is the same in history. Many things have been forgotten because we do not have any written account of them. Sometimes men did keep a record of the most important happenings in their country, but often it was destroyed by fire or in a war. Sometimes there was never any written record at all because the people of that time and place did not know how to write. For example, we know a great deal about the people who lived in China 4,000 years ago, because they could write and leave written records for those who lived after them. But we know almost nothing about the people who lived even 200 years ago in central Africa, because they had not learned to write.

Sometimes, of course, even if the people cannot write, they may know something of the past. They have heard about it from older people, and often songs and dances and stories have been made about the most important happenings, and those have been sung and acted and told for many generations, for most people are proud to tell what their fathers did in the past. This we may call “remembered history”. Some of it has now been written into history. It is not so exact or so valuable to us as written history is, because words are much more easily changed when used again and again in speech than when copied in writing. But where there are no written records, such spoken stories are often very helpful.

1.Which of the following ideas is NOT talked about in the passage ?

A.“ Remembered history”, compared with written history, is less reliable

  B. Written records of the past play a most important part in our learning of the human history.

  C. Where there are no written records, there is no history.

  D. A written account of our daily activities helps us to answer some questions.

2.“Remembered history” is regarded as valuable only when _________.

  A. it is written down

  B. there is no written account

  C. it proves to be true

  D. people are interested in it

  3. The passage suggests that we could have learned much more about our past than we do now if our ancestors had _________.

  A. made more songs and dances.

  B. kept a written record of every past event

  C. not burnt their written records in wars

  D. told exact stories of the most important happenings

  B

any people who write to newspaper and magazines to express their opinions. Letters to the editor must carry the writer’s full name, address and telephone number, although the information is not necessary for publication. This requirement to provide personal particulars is a clear indication that writers are held responsible for what they say. When a writer wants his voice heard, he needs to claim ownership of his voice. Responsibility is the name of the game.

“People today prefer living together to putting their signatures on a marriage certificate because they refuse to accept responsibility for the relationship,” said social worker Ken Yip, “and this is what is causing a lot of family problems.” When we sign a paper, for example, a business contract or a bank document, the signature is a seal of consent, an agreement to take the matter seriously. Most governments and many organizations will not process written complaints if they do not bear the writer’s signature. The absence of a signature, they explain, tells us that the writer cannot be too serious and therefore does not deserve a reply.

There are people who wish to remain anonymous for various reasons.

Multi-billionaire Mr. King donates generously to charity several times a year. He gives simply because he wants to help but not for the publicity his donations may bring, and he does not want his good deeds to make news. In other cases, people insist on anonymity because they are afraid of the consequences of revealing their identity. Crime witnesses may be willing to assist the police, but most are unwilling to give their names when reporting a crime.

Name or no name? The answer is very personal and lies in how much we want to get involved. We all have a name. It is a matter if responsibility to use it when we make a statement, a claim or an accusation. We all want to honor our own name, and it is only by stamping our expression of an opinion with our own name that we honor what we say.

  4. What does the writer mean by saying “Responsibility is the name of the game”?

  A. Names are required to indicate writers’ responsibility for what they say

  B. Publication must bear the writer’s full name, address and phone number.

  C. Writers should be responsible for their names.

D.. Writers need to provide their personal information in the game.

  5. Some people don’t want their names known because they are ________.

  A. hesitant to make a donation

  B. afraid of an accusation

  C. unwilling to draw public attention

  D. ready for involvement

  6. The passage is mainly about _______.

  A. honor and writers

  B. identity and signature

  C. anonymity and signature

  D. signature and responsibility

【吉林省东北师范大学附属中学2016届高三上学期第二次模拟】My 17-year-old daughter went off to college and having her away from home brought back memories of watching Peter Pan when she was little. In the classic TV production, one scene in particular impressed me: when Mrs. Darling puts her children into bed. As she turns off the last of the night light, she takes one last look at the bedroom and says, “Dear night lights, protect my sleeping children.” As a mother, I know how much she loves her children.

It has been several weeks since we took our daughter to college and she seems to be adjusting

well after a short period of homesickness. For us, though, it’s another story. Like most parents, I love checking in on my children at night. But now she’s gone, and I find nighttimes the hardest. I miss her most at night.

In my neighborhood, most of the parents whose kids are off to college are dealing with similar melancholy. My husband is filled with anxiety. One friend talked about getting this sick feeling in her stomach as she prepared for the college drop-off. We complained that many of us were too busy to truly enjoy being with our children while we had them.

For us moms, seeing Toy Story 3 only made the sadness worse as we watched the character Andy, who is the same age as our kids, say goodbye to his childhood as he prepares to leave for college. And it’s not just “first-time” parents like me. Two moms who have kids already well into college said the separation didn’t get any easier. “You feel like something has been taken away from inside you,” said one of them.

I imagine things will get easier with time, especially as I see my daughter adjust to college life. Meanwhile, as I keep my cell phone close to me in bed and text my daughter goodnight and sweet dreams every night, I like to think at messages serve as a night light that keeps her safe.

  7. The writer was deeply impressed by the scene in Peter Pan because ________.

  A. she watched the scene with her daughter

  B. the scene was very exciting and interesting

  C. the scene taught her and her daughter a good lesson

  D. the scene showed a mother’s deep love for her children

  8. After her daughter went to college, the writer ________.

  A. didn’t get used to the change for a long time

  B. often cried as she missed her daughter so much

  C. realized she hadn’t done enough for her daughter

  D. failed to have a good sleep every night

  9. What is the underlined word “melancholy” in Paragraph 3 similar in meaning to?

  A. Happiness.

  B. Anger.

  C. Sadness.

  D. Excitement.

  10. According to the last paragraph, why did the writer keep her cell phone close to her in bed?

  A. To call her daughter any time.

  B. To wait for her daughter’s calls.

  C. To say good night to her daughter.

  D. To wait for her daughter’s messages.
