  重庆市2014高考英语阅读理解一轮(精品)训练题(12)附答案

  A

Have you ever heard of the saying “If you want a friend, be one”?

Here is how one newcomer made friends with the girls and boys in her class on the first day of school. As the bell rang, the newcomer smiled at each girl and boy. Then she said in a

quiet voice, “Good morning. How nice it is to have all of you in my class this year. I’d like to know each of you. I’m sure we will enjoy working together.” Everyone felt that she meant what she said because of her sweet voice and her friendly look.

She told the girls and boys her name and wrote it on the blackboard. Then she told them some of the things she liked to do and she was hoping to do with them

  during the year.

Then she said to the class, “Now, you know my name and the things I like and I want to know your names and the things you like. Then I will feel that I know you. Could you make friends by doing the same as I did?”

One way of getting to know girls and boys in your class is to find out more about them. It is often to be friends with those who have the same hobbies with you. You play the same games and go on journeys together.

You may find that some newcomers in your class miss their old friends and feel strange and lonely. You can invite them to take a walk or to ride a bike with you. You will find many things in common to talk about. Just talking in a friendly manner is one way to make friends.

  56. How do you understand the sentence “If you want a friend, be one”?

  A. You can make friends by doing what a friend should do.

  B. If you want to have a friend, try to make one be your friend. C. You may have a friend by doing everything for him.

  D. When you need a friend, you have to be a friend of yourself.

  57. Do you know who in the example wants to make friends with the boys and girls?

  A. A new boy.

  B. A new girl.

  C. A new teacher.

  D. A new headmaster.

  58. The teacher’s sweet voice and her friendly look ______.

  A. showed that she would like to be a friend of the girls and boys

  B. made every girl and boy happy

  C. told the girls and boys everything about herself

  D. meant she wanted to tell the boys and girls something interesting

  59. A newcomer will be your friend if _______.

  A. he always thinks of his old friends

  B. you ask him how to do something

Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentence, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammars or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.

As for learning, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.

For listening you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes.

If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.

  61. According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills?

  A. Reading and listening

  B. Reading and writing

  C. Writing and speaking

  D. Speaking and listening

  62. To improve your reading, when you read you should ______.

  A. look up all the new words in the dictionary

  B. think about what you are reading actively

  C. spend more time studying grammars

  D. copy as many words and sentences as possible

  63. The underlined phrase “come across”in the second paragraph can probably be replaced(代替) by _______.

  A. meet by chance(偶然)

  B. discover

  C. find on purpose

  D. look for

  64. The author seems to agree with the view that______.

  A. everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day

  B. you needn’t practice listening if you keep on reading every day

  C. being good at reading is helpful in improving

  your listening

  D. you should take notes in speaking and writing English

  65. The passage is mainly about how to _______.

  A. choose suitable listening materials(材料)

  B. deal with new words in reading

  C. improving your English as quickly as possible

The Nez Perce Indians are a tribe that lived in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. At the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition(远征队), which was one of the first journeys by Americans from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast and back again, the Nez Perce territory(领土) covered about 17 million acres, covering parts of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. But that was a brief sweet history.

In September 1805, when Lewis and Clark came off the Rockies on their westward journey, the entire exploring party was hungry and ill—too weak to defend themselves. Had the Nez Perce chosen to attack them, they could have put an end to the Lewis and Clark expedition there on the banks of Clearwater River. Instead the Nez Perce welcomed the white Americans and looked after them until they made a full recovery.

Thus began a long friendship between the Nez Perce and white Americans. But white men's greed for land and gold finally broke the friendship.

In 1855 Governor Isaac Stevens of Washington Territory invited the Nez Perce to a peace conference. He said there were a great many white people in the country, and many more would come. But the chief of the tribe at that time, Old Joseph, replied, “Take away your paper. I will not touch it with my hand.”

Things were quiet for a while after that, but not for long. When Old Joseph died, the chiefship was passed onto Young Joseph. In the late 1870s, government officials came to order the Nez Perce to leave the Wallowa Valley and then began hard battles between the Nez Perce and the white soldiers. After the tribe had fought thirteen battles and moved 1,600 miles towards Canada in an attempt to retreat (撤退) north, Young Joseph, gave in to the United States Army. Here was his famous statement, “Hear me my chiefs. I am tired; my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands I will fight no more forever.”

In 1885, Chief Joseph was sent along with many of his band to the Colville Reservation in Washington where Joseph continued to lead his band for another 25 years, at times coming into conflict with the leaders of 11 other tribes living on the reservation.

  本文讲述了印第安部落The Nez Perce与白人的恩怨。

  16. What is TRUE of the Lewis and Clark expedition?

  A. They were well cared for by the Nez Perce.

  B. They ended their expedition on the banks of Clearwater River.

  C. They started the first battle with the Nez Perce.

  D. They were the first Americans to travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

答案:A。推理判断题。由第二段第三句话“Instead the Nez Perce welcomed the white Americans and looked after them until they made a full recovery. ”可知,the Nez Perce照顾探险队直到他们完全康复,因此A项正确;第二段第二句话“Had the Nez Perce chosen to attack them, they could have put an end to the Lewis and Clark expedition there on the banks of Clearwater River.”是虚拟语气,是假设,所以B项错误;C项错误,文中找不到根据;由第一段第二句话“...which was one of the first journeys by Americans from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast and back again...”可知,D项错误,是最早之一而不是第一次。

  17. What ended the friendship between the Nez Perce and the Whites?

  A. Old Joseph's proud manner.

  B. The breakdown of the peace talk.

  C. A growing number of white men in the land.

  D. White men's increasing demand for land and gold.

答案:D。细节理解题。由第三段第二句话“But white men's greed for land and gold finally broke the friendship.”可知,白人的贪婪破坏了他们的友谊。

18.Young Joseph gave in at last because ________.

  A. he grew older B. he was terribly ill

  C. he hated the war D. he lost other chiefs' support

  答案:C。推理判断题。由第五段最后Joseph说的话可知,他对战争厌倦了。

  19. Which map most probably shows the path the Nez Perce took in the late 1870s?

答案:A。识图理解题。由第一段第一句话“The Nez Perce Indians are a tribe that lived in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.”和第五段“After the tribe had fought thirteen battles and moved 1,600 miles towards Canada in an attempt to retreat (撤退) north”可知,The Nez Perce Indians是从美国西北部向北朝加拿大方向撤退,因此A图正确。

  20. The passage might be followed by a paragraph about ________.

  A. the customs and traditions of the Nez Perce Indians

  B. the last years of Chief Joseph in the Colville Reservation

  C. lasting fights between the Nez Perce and the whites

  D. constant conflicts between the Nez Perce and other tribes

  解析:B。推理判断题。文章后三段讲的是部落首领Joseph,因此接下来会讲他在保留地里的最后的生活。

On Christmas morning, I went to the Cockhedge Mall. People there were all busy buying their last minute requirements. I needed to buy a birthday card for my soninlaw whose birthday is the 29th of December. Picking up a few more things as well as my cared I went to join the line for the express checkout which was for people who only had a few items in a basket and not a trolley load. This line was next to the Customer Service Desk.

Seemingly waiting quite a long time,I was jogged out of my thoughts by a voice behind me making comments on the things I bought.

It was so funny when I realized that she was describing the contents of my basket. The owner of the voice was a very pretty young lady. I said to her that I was going to buy a box of Christmas cookies but the only ones left were not to my liking. The lady told me that just opposite Cockhedge in Superdrug they had lots of cookies. I said, I'm not going to bother now. I had enough of shops and I'm going home.

The assistant from the Customer Service came across at this time, saying, “If there is anyone in the line with a few items in their basket, none of which needed to be weighed, I will check out their groceries at the desk.” Because I had the sprouts which needed to be weighted, the young lady accepted the offer and walked away waving goodbye.

Eventually my turn came at the checkout. I was walking away when I met my new friend once again who handed me a beautiful box of Christmas cookies. With a big hug she said “Hope you have a lovely Christmas.” She had been into Superdrug to buy me the cookies while I was still queuing in Cockhedge.

What a generosity to a stranger! I was so surprised you could have knocked me down with a feather. My Good Samaritan would never know what a joyful Christmas day I had with my family. Telling them this story, as we ate around the table, kept everyone spellbound.

  A. Nobody is sure what will happen the next moment.

  B. A simple action can bring other people happiness.

  C. Being patient will decrease the waiting time.

  答案:B。推理判断题。本题实际考查文章主旨:小小的慷慨之举温暖人心,令人感到快乐。故选B。

Count Me OutCall me oldfashioned. Call me old. Call me what you want, but refuse to become part of this new Internet world.

I do not possess a computer at home or at the office. Actually,I stopped going to an office 35 years ago, when all communications were done with a pen, a typewriter, or,if the matter was of worldshaking importance, over the telephone. Likewise, if you like something advertised in a newspaper or magazine, you visited the shop selling it at the given address, or you phoned the number shown. Then you spoke to the fellow and asked for further details.

Tell me what you think of the following ad that appeared the other day in the newspaper. It was for a cure for cancer and this is what it said: “Awareness is the key. Visit spfulford. com at the awareness site.” There was no address or telephone number for the site. So what do unfortunate people without a computer do it when they are seeking a cure for their illness?

There are, I am told, certain advantages in having access to the Internet. You can, for example, send love messages across the world or even get married to someone that you meet online. This bit doesn't interest me;I have been happily married for 60 years. There are,of course, other activities for Internet users besides finding love. They can pay bills, order groceries, or discuss with their doctors.

And this is by no means all. More amazing things are yet to come in the near future. I read a newspaper report recently that quoted Stephen Hawking, an important British scientist. “The complexity of a computer as it exists today is probably less than the brain of an earthworm,” he said. “But, as technology advances, computers will become more complex, and a time may come when the Internet may develop ‘consciousness’. In other words, the Internet will be able to think, have feelings, and may well be able to act on its own.”

If Professor Hawking is right, I may change my attitude about conjurers. As I grow older each day, I would like one of those that not only thinks for me but also accepts responsibilities for all my mistakes.

  本文描述了一位老人对电脑和网络的态度。

5.What's the meaning of the title “Count Me Out” ?

  A. Get me out of the Internet world.

  B. Computers are trying to take control of life.

  C. Modern technology pushes old people away.

  D. Do not expect me to be a supporter of the Internet.

  答案:D。主旨大意题。由首、尾段可知答案。

6.According to Paragraph 2,the author thinks computers are ________.

  A. unnecessary

  B. convenient

  C. expensive

  D. advanced

  答案:A。推理判断题。由第二段可知,作者认为多少年来没有电脑也一样什么都能做到,认为没有必要使用电脑。故选A。

7.What might the author like about the future computer?

  A. Taking blames.

  B. Curing illnesses.

  C. Delivering messages. D. Responding to emotions.

答案:A。推理判断题。由尾段尾句“As I grow older each day, I would like one of those that not only thinks for me but also accepts responsibilities for all my mistakes.”可推知A项正确。
