Shinji Okazaki scored a hat-trick and Ryoichi Maeda struck twice to lead Japan for a 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia on Monday and a place in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup.
Saudi Arabia had already been eliminated and created virtually no scoring chances against a superior opponent.
Also in the Group B action, Jordan beat Syria 2-1 to join Japan in the last eight. Odai Al Saify and and own goal from Suliman Al Salman give Jordan the 2-1 comeback victory. Mohamed Al Zino gave Syria an early lead.
Japan set up a meeting in the round of the last eight with the hosts Qatar after topping Group B on seven points, while Jordan, who finished second on goal difference, will meet Uzbekistan.
