Palmeiras and Ceara battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday in the 30th round of the Brazilian Championship. The result extends Palmeiras' undefeated streak to eight games.
Palmeiras struck first, scoring just before halftime. In the 45th minute, Marcos Assuncao took command of a direct kick, sending the ball with precision into the upper right corner of the Ceara goal, out of reach of a diving keeper Michel Alves.
As the game was winding down, Ceara was able to score the equalizer in the 82nd minute. After a foul was called on Magno Alves inside of the penalty box, Geraldo blew the penalty kick into the back of the Palmeiras net.
The result drops Palmeiras to tenth place with 44 points. In the 31st round of play, the team will travel across town to face rival Corinthians on October 24.
Ceara remains in 12th place with 39 points. In the next round of action, the team will receive Sao Paulo on October 24.
