Robin Soderling of Sweden and Nikolay Davydenko of Russia advanced to the second round of China Open on Tuesday.
The third-seeded Soderling came back to defeat Spain's Robredo 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 and the fourth-seeded Davydenko was untroubled in beating Florian Mayer of Germany 6-3, 6-4.
The 28-year-old Robredo lost the second round to Soderling last year here in straight sets. He did not escaping from losing again this year, though he won the first set by breaking the ninth game. Two-time French Open runner-up Soderling soon found his stride, dominating the second set with seven aces, before hammering out a tough 6-4 third-set win.
Davydenko was perfectly steady, using deep, heavy groundstrokes to pressure Mayer into 10 unforced errors. The 29-year-old Russian finished the match in only one hour.
Soderling will face Nicolas Almagro of Spain, who beat Kubot Lukasz of Poland 7-5, 6-2 in the first round. Davydenko will fight for a quarter-final spot with Marin Cilic from Croatia, a winner over Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 6-2, 6-2.
