　　1. Quite the contrary, just as the cook has to undergo an intensive training, mastering the skills of his trade, the writer must sit at his desk and devote long hours to achieving a style in his writing, whatever its purposeschoolwork, matters of business, or purely social communication.

　　【译文】恰恰相反，正如厨师必须经过强化训练掌握烹饪技能，作家也必须坐在书桌前，花大量时间形成自己写作风格，不管他的着重点在哪儿学校作业，商务事宜，还是纯粹的社交。

　　【析句】复合句，从句在前，as引导定语从句，mastering the skills是现在分词作伴随状语，主句在后，the writer must sit...and devote...writing,whatever its purpose作状语。

　　2. There are a few managers who are lucky enough to have the service of that rare kind of secretary who can take care of all sorts of letter writing with no more than a quick note to work from.

　　【译文】很少有幸运的经理们可以找到像那样稀有的秘书，可以包揽各种类型的信件而不用参考例文。

　　【析句】复合句，主句为There are a few managers,后面有两个定语从句，who are lucky enough to have...secretary修饰managers，who can take care of...修饰secretary。

　　3. We want whatever we write to be read, from first word to last, not just thrown into some letters to be read file or into a wastepaper basket.

　　【译文】我们希望不管自己写的是什么，都被人从头到尾读完，而不是被扔到要读的文件里或是废纸篓里。

　　【析句】本例句句式比较简单，主句We want whatever we write to be read,whatever we write是宾语，to be read为宾语补足语，not just thrown into...为过去分词作结果状语。
