首先理智培养有益于个人的学习和成就，这些基本的技能让人们正确掌握知识，看待世界的方法，学会正确分析各种社会现象。 很多对社会做出重大贡献的人，不管是科学家，还是政治家，都有很强的理智
理智有益于社会的稳定。因为很多时候丧失理性会导致社会动乱，比如那些series killer 或者 person who streaking，让冲动控制自己，邪教，但是给社会带来恐慌，或者负面影响。理性让人们学会适当的根据场合，做出自己的正确的应对态度，而不是丧失理性。
但是人们也不能忽视情感的培养，好的控制自己的情绪，表达自己的情感，学会与人合作，能帮助人的成功。除了艺术方面需要情绪激发灵感，很多政治 家，企业家都是需要好的Emotional Quotient . 一篇好的演讲稿既需要，也要rhetoric 来激发人们的情感，这样才能达到劝说人的目的。
所以社会要健康正常发展，必须两者都要重视发展。
