中考单词易错点解析：Compete and Complete

　　Compete

　　to try to be more successful or better than somebody else who is trying to do the same as you 竞争，比赛，对抗 [不及物动词]

　　1. We cant compete with them on price.

　　我们在价格上无法与他们竞争。

　　2. The two teams compete for the championship.

　　那两队都要争当冠军。

　　3. When it comes to English, I cant compete with him.

　　要说英语，我就没法和他比了。

　　Complete

　　to finish making or doing something 结束，完成 [动词][常用于被动语态]

　　1. I think the work can be completed ahead of time.

　　我认为这项工作能提前完成。

　　2. The project was completed ahead of the schedule.

　　这项工程提前完工。

　　3. The railway is not completed yet.

　　这条铁路尚未完工。

　　used when you are emphasizing something, to mean to the greatest degree possible 完全的，彻底的 [表示强调]

　　1. I was in a complete haze.

　　我完全糊涂了。

　　2. She is a complete novice as a reporter.

　　她初任记者，完全是个生手。

　　3. The room was in complete darkness.

　　房间里一片漆黑。

　　【注意】

　　compete和complete拼写和发音相似，容易混淆。请注意它们词性的不同。compete为动词，complete可以用作动词和形容词。
