　　The Limitation of Book Knowledge

　　Some people may think that the most important task of a student is to learn well what is taught in books, because books are the main source of knowledge. But we often find that a lot of students who work hard on books and get high marks in examinations are not able to work competently when they once enter into a career. What is the reason, then?

　　It is not the books that are to be blamed. It is because these students lack the ability to cope with the different practical problems arising in their work. They have not learned things beyond the books. Books are only summaries of what people have acquired in their struggle with the nature and the society. They can never cover all the things and happenings in the world. Our world is changing so rapidly that not a few books become out-dated as soon as they come out of the press.

　　Once we are aware of the limitation of book learning, we shall see that we should not confine our study to books. We should accumulate our knowledge and ability through practice and keen observation of the world.
