Nowadays there is more and more TV advertisement, and there is a lot of misinformation in some of these advertisements. Some people think that consumers have the right to know the correct information and that government should restrict the contents of these advertisements. What is your opinion?

No one can avoid being influenced by advertisements and advertising exerts a tremendous influence on us. Recently, there are people who are of the opinion that public has the right to know the correct information of the advertisements and government also should restrict the contents of these advertisements. Personally I agree with this opinion for the following reasons.

In the first instance, consumers have the right to know the correct information before deciding on whether to buy them. Advertisements are highly information that helps people to make choice before they go to buy what they need. If the advertisement exaggerates the products it also will persuade people into buying things, which they dont really want.

Secondly, any misleading advertisements will lead to the marketing tricks, causing chaos in the market. Too many misleading advertisements are barrio to distinguishing between decent products or products of bad quality. His bread in truth is made with soy flour, while he advertises it as white bread. These misleading information causes illegal competition.

Last but not least, government should stipulate laws in consumers interests. According to the laws, advertisements must be truthful. If the advertisements mislead consumers, government can impose great fine on them to set a lesson.

In general, the role of advertisements is inevitable and undeniable. A good advertisement can be a bridge between business and consumers and helps keep business moving. So we need correct information and government also needs to restrict the contents of advertisements. Let misinformation of advertisements be far away from us.

Do you think old buildings should be broken down, and give place for modern buildings. How are the old buildings important in our society?

With the rapid development of urbanization, many people advocate the demolition of old houses for the benefit of economic and social development. But others argue that we cant ruin the traditional cultural heritage. Personally, I side with the former opinion.

In the first place, the existence of old houses is an obstacle to modern urbanization by damaging the image of the city. If they are replaced with modern skyscrapers, the city will take on a new look. Take the Summer Palace in Beijing for example, Being government has demolished a large number of run-down the Summer Palace and constructed many new housing buildings instead.

In the second place, there is a potential danger to people living in old houses or even passers-by. If the houses are old enough to collapse in the end, where does the value of culture or tourism exist? The tourists surely will not travel a long distance to see these so-called culture heritage at the risk of their lives.

In the third place, replacing old houses with buildings can help to solve housing problems. It is well-known that China is a densely-populated country and people in urban areas only have little housing space. Undoubtedly, replacing old houses with new buildings is a good way to solve the problem.

As mentioned above, I can draw a conclusion safely: It is irresistible to replace old houses with modern buildings. At the same time, it is necessary for us to restore a limited number of old houses for the sake of conserving traditional culture and attracting tourists.

Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  Arguments

  1. It is necessary to develop the tourist trade, for it contributes a lot to increasing understanding between nations.

  2. As the saying goes,Seeing is believing.Only a trip to an unfamiliar land can help us understand the people and culture there.

  3. Since tourism helps increase understanding between people,it will finally wipe out prejudice against other nations, and make the world a more peaceful one.

  4. Tourism contributes significantly to many countries GNP 。 The economy of some nations is based on the tourist industry.

  5. Tourism helps develop a nations commerce because tourists are most likely to buy souvenirs wherever they go.

  6. Tourism provides jobs for many people and helps solve or ease the social problem of unemployment.

  7. Tourism helps accelerate a citys construction and its embellishment.

  8. Contact with tourists from afar widens the horizon of the local people.

  9. The tourist trade gives people a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the world and the wonders of mankind.

  10. Tourism will help people learn about different cultures of the world.

  Counter-arguments

  1. Tourism cannot increase understanding between nations because tourists are often trapped in big hotels and only gaze at the natives from a distance.

  2. Tourism does not wipe out prejudice, but leads to the persistence of national stereotypes because when travelling, you notice only characteristics which confirm your preconceptions.

  3. It is true that foreign friends can make people understand stereotypes are absurd and harmful, but the tourist trade prevents people from making foreign friends.

  4. Since tourists do not have time to mix with the local people, they cannot have a full view of the local culture.

  5. Tourism makes some parts of the world too crowded a place to live in.

  6. Tourism creates pollution and has destroyed many beautiful scenic spots.

  7. Tourists cannot have a full enjoyment of the beautiful scenery because the places they visit are restricted by organizers.

  8. As the saying goes, Travel makes a wise man better, but a fool worse.

  9. Contact with and assimilation of other cultures will reduce the uniqueness of ones own culture and make the world less colourful than before.

The booming tourist trade has brought about mass exchange of population between different nations. At first glance, this bridges the understanding and communication between different cultures. In my opinion, however, this fast-growing industry has produced tension between people from different cultural background.

The first barrier for curious tourists from all over the world is the problem of language. The most attractive destinations of tourism are, ironically, less developed areas where the world language English, has not been prevalent. Therefore, the direct contact between tourists and local residents has been cut down. The tour guide, normally interpreter too, becomes the only link of communication. But unfortunately, as indicated in any guide-training handbook, the responsibility of a tour guide is to arouse the tourists interest and passion rather than present a lecture on cultural difference. Thus, tourists, beyond their expectations, cannot fully understand the cultures which appear to be exotic.

Another obstacle is from the local government. As I argue before, in most of case, the local refers to the less developed regions. In order to attract foreign investment and maintain the local tourism industry, the officials, deliberately or not, only hope to show outsiders the positive side of the area, hence, the part of local living. As a result, conducted tours are carefully censored. The tourists, or prisoners to some extent, are allowed to see only what the organizers want them to see and no more. A window-shop schedule gives no opportunity to wander off on ones own. In this way, even for a knowledgeable traveler with practical experience can only see the superficial of the local culture. If so, an instant misunderstanding will be falsely shaped.

All things considered, the international tourism contributes absolutely nothing to increasing understanding. Instead, in its way as it is today, a hideous prejudice and misinterpretation will be established.

Computer is widely used in education, and some people think teachers are not playing an important role in the classroom. To what extend do you agree?

Computer, as the most powerful tool in the information age, is widely applied in peoples work, study and daily life. A growing number of people think optimistically that computer will replace teachers in the classroom and play the leading role in study. As far as I am concerned, it will not take the place of teachers now and for good.

One of the main reasons is that computer works pursuant to the prescribed programs. It cannot work creatively and solve the queries from students. Suppose a new problem arises in study, computer will be at a loss and unable to explain the questions put forward by students. Although there is good news about the international chess games between computer and human beings, computer will never win because it is only a product of human intelligence.

Another reason is that computer cannot express feelings and emotions in communication. Communication plays an important role not only in constructing personal relations, but also in understanding each other clearly. Study is not a mere process of acquiring knowledge. It is, more important, an indispensable sector for people to communicate with each other and build interpersonal relations. Without feeling, everybody would become a cold creature and make the world unbearable.

Last but not least, computer cannot take the place of teachers to organize teaching activities and keep good order in the classroom. A good organizer can activate the atmosphere of study, triggering students study interest. In addition, study can only proceed in the circumstance of good order. Otherwise, the classroom will become meaningless.

In brief, computer plays a role in students study. But it will never take the place of teachers in the classroom, for computer is a tool after all, which has many disadvantages.
