　　Basic science is ignored by many people today. What are the causes of this phenomenon and what are your solutions?

　　The trend of selecting humanities is gaining increasing popularity in recent decades but on the contrary, basic science, as the cornerstone of modern technology, is largely ignored by the general public today. This essay will discuss some of reasons for this ignorance and what can be done to address this unfavorable situation.

　　To begin with, many people feel that basic science is not closely related to their daily lives compared with humanities. For example, one would need an appreciation of beauty to help them to choose what they would wear on an ordinary day rather than discussing the outfit based on the chemical compositions of the material.

　　Second, science professionals cannot earn as good a salary as those working with humanities. For instance, both pop and sports stars, such as soccer players are located on top of the salary list, however, even if one won the Nobel Prize that is the most reputable award with the greatest financial rewards, only millions of dollars for a whole lifetimes effort would be gained. This amount is not comparable with a super stars salary for a single year.

　　In order to terminate this unfortunate trend, governments have to raise public awareness of the significance of basic science, and provide science professionals with more appreciation and increased financial rewards. Meanwhile, schools can also augment the emphasis of assessing basic science subjects, such as physics and chemistry to increase students interests.

　　In conclusion, apart from the importance of basic science and their less-paid professionals, the causes of the ignorance of basic science are numerous but obvious. I am convinced that measures, including efforts by governments and schools should be taken to provide solutions to this issue.
