“算算看”怎么说

先想象这样一个场景：你和朋友约好上午9点去故宫玩，结果你在故宫门口一直等到12点，他/她才姗姗来迟。来了之后，他还问你等了多久了，这时候你什么感觉?一定很气恼吧?这时你的回答可以是"我早上九点就来了，现在是中午十二点，你自己算算看吧。"这样一句话用英语要怎么说呢?

老美们会这样说：I came here at 9 am, and now it's 12. You do the math.

Math 本身是"数学"的意思，而 do the math 则是一个惯用法，意思就是请别人自己算算看，例如我们的例句。这个 "You do the math." 通常是在引出一连串的数据资料之后，放在句尾，请人家自己完成数学的计算部份。再举一个例子，比方说老美问我："Do you know how far it is between the sun and the earth? (你知道从太阳到地球有多远吗?) " 这时我可以回答说："The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second; it takes 8 1/2 minutes for the light to travel from the sun to the earth. You do the math. (光速是每秒 186,000 英里，而光从太阳到地球需要八分半钟，你自己算算看吧!)"

"You do the math." 这样的用法在日常生活当中十分常见，举凡加减乘除之类跟数学有关的运算，你都可以用 "You do the math." 来表示"我知道答案但我懒得算，想知道答案就请自己算算看"。当然你也可以用 "You do the calculation." 但这样的用法远不及 "You do the math." 来得普遍。
