The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet has beenawarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its contributionto the country’s transition to democracy in the wake of the Arab spring.

The little-known group won out over a long list of famous names, including German ChancellorAngela Merkel and Pope Francis.

The Dialogue, formed in 2013, was a key player in aiding Tunisia’s political transition, helping toratify a new constitution and set up its electoral commission.

The Nobel committee hailed the organisation for its “decisive contribution to the building of apluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution in 2011.
