Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia's influential ex-primeminister, has called for a “people’s powermovement to intensify the efforts of a marathon 34-hour weekend protest to oust hisscandal-hit successor.

The 90-year old former premier spoke as thousands of demonstrators returned to the streetsof Kuala Lumpur to call for the resignation of Najib Razak, who denies allegations ofcorruption linked to a troubled state investment fund.

Thepremier has condemned the demonstrators as people who want to “scribble black coal onMalaysia's face to the outside world.
