After dropping your phone into the ocean, it's safe to assume you've lost all hope of recovering your precious gadget. But after nearly two months, one lucky kayaker who dropped his phone into the water off the coast Santa Cruz had his phone returned, in working order.

Imgur user ehtnaerokyug, first name Sam, posted his phone recovery story to the website on Wednesday. According to his post, Sam and his friend were Kayaking in Monterey Bay on March 13, and he was wearing a new waterproof case around his neck, snapping photos of their journey.

At about 11:45 a.m., Sam fell into the water and panicked.

"I was panicking because I thought I was going to die even though I had my life vest on but it was because my foot got caught in the seaweed," Sam wrote on Imgur. "I thought my life was over."

Sam eventually made his way back to his kayak, but fell once again, dropping his iPhone 6 Plus with its new waterproof case into the water. Unfortunately, he didn't realize he lost his phone until he paddled back to shore. An employee from the kayak rental searched for it, but came up empty handed.

On May 8, he received a message saying his iPhone had been found. Another kayaker ventured into Monterey Bay to go Scuba diving and found the phone working, sealed in the waterproof bag near a rock.

According to the case's description on Amazon, it is rated with the strongest immersionlevel, IPX8, and claims it can "keep your cell phone dry underwater up to 100 feet."

"I was baffled," Sam wrote on Imgur, adding, "I had no words to explain my feelings. I didn't know what to say or do. I couldn't have thanked them enough."
