I didn't have much time in Barcelona, but I knew Ineeded to soak up as much of Gaudí's architectureas I could while there.

我在巴塞罗那的时间并不多，但是我知道我应该利用我在的时间尽可能多的了解高迪的建筑。

In order to get the most out of his bizarremasterpieces, I decided to take Discover Walk's FREEGaudí Tour. Meeting outside the Casa Batlló, I wasblown away by its appearance.The tour didn't justfocus on Gaudí, our guide BL, a native to Barcelona, did a fantastic job explaining the historybehind many of buildings we saw and also the culture of Barcelona.

为了更好的了解他那些天才般的杰作，我决定踏上发现高迪免费观光之旅。在巴特洛公寓外面的集合时看到它的外形便令我震惊。这次观光的焦点并不集中在高迪，我们的导游BL，一个当地人，很好的为我们讲解了许多建筑背后的历史以及巴塞罗那的文化。

Casa Batlló used to be a plain house, but once the owner realized they were richer than theirchocolate-making neighbor, they hired Gaudí to add a floor so that their house would be taller.

巴特洛公寓曾经是一栋普通的房子，但是当它的主人意识到自己比制作巧克力的邻居富有时，主人便决定雇佣高迪为房子增加一层楼梯以便使房子更高。

The problem is, you can only hire Gaudí and let him work– you can't give him directions.Soinstead of simply making the house taller, he changed the entire façade.

问题是，你可以雇用高迪为你工作，但是你不能让他按你的指示行事。所以高迪不只把房子加高，他改变了房子的整个外观。

I mean, can you imagine coming home to your house and seeing this? Especially in theconservative days of the early 1900s. I can't even imagine the reaction of the owner! Buthey, at least it's still the tallest house on the street.

我的意思是你能想象自己回到家后发现自己的房子完全变了模样吗?尤其是在那保守的20世纪早期。我甚至都不能想象房主的反应!不过至少这是整条街上最高的房子。

While the other houses on the block all have dragons outside their front doors, Casa Batlló isthe only house that does not. Why? Well, Gaudí never explicitly explained his art, it's prettyeasy to interpret that the entire house is a dragon.

但是这条街上的其它房子的前门外都装饰有龙，巴特洛公寓是唯一没有龙的房子。为什么呢?高迪从来不会明确的解释他的艺术，当然这也很容易解释，因为整个房子就是一条龙的形状。

Whether you think Gaudí was crazy or a genius, you can't deny that his architecture hasbecome the symbol of Barcelona. Love it or hate it, sure Gaudí's architecture might be gaudy,but I absolutely wouldn't have it any other way.

无论你认为高迪是疯子还是天才，你都无法否认他的建筑已经成为巴塞罗那的象征。喜欢或不喜欢，无疑高迪的建筑风格是有些夸张的，但是我绝对不会以任何另外的形式欣赏它了。
