Glaciers in the Qomolangma region could be almostcompletely eradicated by 2100 due to greenhousegas emissions, scientists have warned.

科学家警告称，受温室气体排放的影响，珠穆朗玛峰地区的冰川可能在2100年之前几乎全部融化。

Models show that a decrease of 99% by the end ofthe century is likely if emissions continue to rise, andeven 70% is possible if emissions are reduced.

模型显示，如果温室气体排放量继续增加，到本世纪末，珠峰冰川面积可能减少99%;而如果排放量减少，这一数字甚至可能降到70%。

Increased temperatures will not only increase the rates of snow and ice melt, but can also resultin a change of precipitation from snow to rain at critical elevations, where glaciers areconcentrated.

The research was carried out by scientists from Nepal, the Netherlands and France.

They studied weather patterns in the atmosphere and then created a model of conditions onQomolangma to determine the future impact of rising temperatures on its glaciers.
