★ From the way ~「从~的方式来看」此语用于表示从相关的状况、某人的样貌、谈话的内 容等来加以判断，可以得出某种结论。前面如接用Judging一词的话，意思是「从~判 断」，这是比较正式的说法。Cf. Judging from the radio news, the dollar will get stronger and stronger.「从广播资讯判断，美元将变得越来越强势。」
★ 伦敦人所讲的方言特征之一是today 的发音听起来就像to die。这也是澳洲英语的特征。

★ Do you mind if ~? 「你介意~吗？」这是众多请求许可的句型中的一个。Do you mind if I smoke?「你介意我抽烟吗？」Mind的意思是「介意，在意」，要回答「不，我不介意」时，可以说"No, I don't."另外也有Do you mind my smoking?的说法。
下面再举出一些请求许可的基本句型：
May I take this seat?「我可以坐这个位子吗？」

Is it all right if I use your telephone?「我可以借用你的电话吗？」
Are we allowed to take pictures here?「这里准许拍照吗？」要婉拒这类请求时，可在句前接用I'm afraid「可惜」一语，如I'm afraid I can't help you.「可惜我无法帮助你。」
