A: Don’t make lame excuses. Let’s go to the movie.
B: I want to see the movie with you, but my parents want me to go see my cousin’s performance. I feel powerless to disobey them.
A: Don’t be spineless. Just tell your parents we already made plans weeks ago and you can’t make the performance.
B: I’m always week when it comes to my parents and find it hard to tell them “no.

A: 别再找蹩脚的借口了。我们去看电影吧。
B: 我真想和你去，可我父母希望我去看表妹的演出。我觉得不能不听他们的话。
A: 别那么软弱。就跟他们说我们几个星期前就约好了，你不能去看表妹的演出了。
B: 在我父母面前我强硬不起来，觉得很难对他们说不。

【语言点精讲】

lame: 瘸的，引申为不充足的，不圆滑的。
powerless: 无能力的，无能量的。完全没办法。
spineless: 没有勇气的；不敢做决定的；无骨气的。
disobey: 不服从，违反。
