A: The book I just finished was hard to read. The language was so platitudinous.
B: Really? I heard that it was quite a good book. Plebeian after all was it?
A: Yes, it was full of musty ideas from pervious times, very out of touch with modern thinking.
B: I see. It’s amazing to see so many unexciting books making it to the shelves these days.

A: 我刚看完的那本书让人难以读进去，语言太陈腐。
B: 是吗？我听说那本书不错。真的很平庸吗？
A: 对，都是些过时的旧观点，和现在的思想完全脱节了。
B: 这么回事呀。现在这么多无聊的书也能被摆上书架，真令人惊讶。

【语言点精讲】

platitudinous: 语言平淡乏味的；老生常谈的；陈词滥调的。
plebeian: 平常的；平庸的；粗俗的。
musty: 书过时的，废弃的。
out of touch with: 与……相脱离。
unexciting: 不令人兴奋的；不使人激动的；无聊的。
