BEIJING, Aug. 11 -- China's national observatory on Tuesday renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms in several provinces and regions over the next 24 hours.
From 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday, torrential rains and rainstorms are expected to lash parts of Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Henan, Taiwan and the Sichuan Basin, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said.
According to the forecast, some regions are likely to see over 100 mm of hourly precipitation, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
The center warned that some areas in Hebei, Beijing and the Sichuan Basin will experience downpours.
The Ministry of Water Resources and the NMC issued a red alert on Tuesday for possible heavy floods in parts of Sichuan and Gansu provinces.
Local authorities are advised to stay vigilant for possible flooding, landslides and mudslides, and halt outdoor activities in disaster-prone areas.
China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
