The third annual session of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference opened at 3 pm on May 21. Amid regular measures to prevent and control COVID-19, this year's session is set to conclude on May 27, four and half days shorter than previously planned. During the session, the number of plenary meetings and group meetings will be reduced.

每日一词∣中国人民政治协商会议 Chinese Peoples Political Consultative Conference （CPPCC）1 2020年5月21日，中国人民政治协商会议第十三届全国委员会第三次会议在北京人民大会堂开幕。中国人民政治协商会议中华人民共和国宪法规定：中国共产党领导的多党合作和政治协商制度将长期存在和发展。

中国人民政治协商会议是中国共产党领导下，由中国共产党、8个民主党派、无党派民主人士、人民团体、各少数民族和各界的代表，台湾同胞、港澳同胞和归国侨胞的代表，以及特别邀请的人士组成，具有广泛的社会基础。

中国人民政治协商会议根据中国共产党同各民主党派和无党派人士“长期共存，互相监督，肝胆相照，荣辱与共”的方针，对国家的大政方针和群众生活的重要问题进行政治协商，并通过建议和批评发挥民主监督作用。人民政协的主要职能是政治协商和民主监督，组织参加本会的各党派、团体和各族各界人士参政议政。中国人民政治协商会议的一切活动以中华人民共和国宪法为根本的准则。

中国人民政治协商会议设全国委员会和地方委员会。

人民政协要通过有效工作，努力成为坚持和加强党对各项工作领导的重要阵地、用党的创新理论团结教育引导各族各界代表人士的重要平台、在共同思想政治基础上化解矛盾和凝聚共识的重要渠道。

The CPPCC, through effective efforts, should build itself into a key base to uphold and strengthen the Party's leadership over all areas of endeavor, a key platform to unite, educate and guide representatives of all ethnic groups and sectors with the Party's new theories, as well as a key channel to resolve disputes and build consensus on the common theoretical and political foundation.
