在国际护士节到来之际，国家主席习近平向全国广大护士致以节日的祝贺，对广大护士英勇无畏冲向国内国外疫情防控斗争第一线表示了赞扬。习近平鼓励广大护士为健康中国建设、维护世界公共卫生安全不断作出新的贡献。

President Xi Jinping encouraged the country's nurses to make new contributions to promote the building of the Healthy China initiative and maintain the security of global public health. In greetings sent to nurses across the country ahead of International Nurses Day, Xi complimented the nurses for their brave fight against the novel coronavirus disease both in China and overseas.

2020年3月23日， 武汉火神山医院重症医学一科的护士们合影为武汉加油。每年的5月12日是国际护士节。为了纪念英国护理学先驱、护士职业创始人弗洛伦斯•南丁格尔对护理工作做出的卓越贡献，国际护士理事会于1912年把南丁格尔的诞辰日定为国际护士节，以激励护士继承和发扬护理事业的光荣传统，以“爱心、耐心、细心、责任心”对待每一位病人，做好护理工作。

2020年的国际护士节主题为 “护士：引领之声 – 护理世界健康”，展示了护士在应对各种健康挑战中发挥的关键作用。

新冠肺炎疫情暴发以来，全国共有4.26万名医护人员驰援武汉，其中近七成是护士，80后、90后占到了护士总数的九成。如果说南丁格尔精神的内核是用爱心、耐心、细心和责任心去对待每一位患者。那么这次战疫，更是护士队伍对南丁格尔不畏艰险、甘于奉献、救死扶伤、勇于献身的人道主义精神和职业精神的集体弘扬与践行。
