WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 -- U.S. Defense Department confirmed on Thursday that one U.S. soldier had died in a non-combat incident in Afghanistan.
The soldier, who was supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel, died on Wednesday at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from a non-combat related incident, said the Pentagon in a statement.
The incident is under investigation, the statement added.
The United States reportedly maintains some 13,000 troops in Afghanistan, largely providing training missions to local Afghan forces while also conducting counterterrorism operations against terror groups.
