国内英语资讯:Chinese premier sends congratulatory letter to Montreal Protocol anniversary meeting

BEIJING, Sept. 12 -- Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday sent a congratulatory letter to the commemorative meeting celebrating the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

Protecting the ozone layer and combating climate change are common global challenges. Over the past 30 years, the implementation of the Montreal Protocol has effectively curbed damage to the ozone layer caused by human activities, Li said in the letter.

This indicates the determination of the international community in protecting the global environment, and sets an example for solving other global environmental problems, the premier added.

Li noted that China, as a responsible major developing country, has always actively participated in global environmental governance, proposing green, low-carbon, circular and sustainable production patterns, with the aim of balanced promotion of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Under the framework of the Montreal Protocol, the volume of ozone-depleting substances that China has phased out accounted for over half of that of all developing countries. China will continue to assume its international obligations, promote international exchanges and cooperation in environmental protection, and make new contributions to global ecological safety, the premier said in the letter.
