TOKYO, Dec. 5 -- Business leaders, former senior officials, experts and scholars from China and Japan called for deepening economic cooperation at the third round of Sino-Japanese Entrepreneurs and Former High-level Officials Dialogue that wrapped up here on Tuesday.
Zeng Peiyan, former Chinese vice premier and chairman of China Center for International Economic Exchanges, and former Japanese prime minister Yasuo Fukuda were among the participants of the dialogue.
The two sides held frank discussions on new ideas of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and reached consensus on various issues, including enhancing trade, investment and financial cooperation and jointly exploring third party markets.
The Chinese participants briefed their Japanese counterparts on the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as well as the achievements of Chinese economy and structural readjustment over the past five years.
They said that bilateral economic cooperation is now facing a window for new development.
The Japanese side, for its part, said the 19th CPC congress specified the challenges facing China as well as the ways to tackle these challenges and has sent to the world the signal that China will keep boosting its opening-up drive.
The dialogue, which started on Monday, was very timely and helpful for Japanese entrepreneurs to understand the new phase of China's development, the Japanese participants said.
The two sides agreed that as China and Japan are highly complementary to each other in economy, they should enhance cooperation in promoting structural readjustment, nurturing new industries and exploring third party markets.
Expanding the win-win cooperation is in the interests of both Chinese and Japanese people and will contribute to building an East Asian Economic Community and pushing for the stable development of the global economy, they said.
The Japanese side also expressed its wish to take part in cooperation under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and make joint efforts with China to expand trade, investment and industry cooperation, so as to promote stable and healthy development of bilateral economic ties.
The two sides also had discussions on trade policies, trade gap, foreign direct investment, third party market exploration among others, and have reached broad consensus.
The China Center for International Economic Exchanges and Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), as co-sponsors of the dialogue, issued a joint statement after the dialogue, expressing the willingness to grasp the opportunity and deepen mutually-beneficial cooperation.
As this year marks the 45th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic ties and next year the 40th anniversary of the signing of China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship, the joint statement called on both sides to take the opportunities to further improve pragmatic cooperation and coordination between the two countries and push for further development of bilateral relations.
During the dialogue, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko, Deputy Governor at Bank of Japan Hiroshi Nakaso also briefed the Chinese side on Japanese economy, industries and monetary policies.
The Sino-Japanese Entrepreneurs and Former High-level Officials Dialogue, launched in November 2017 and held in Japan and China alternatively, is aimed at providing a platform for communication between entrepreneurs and former officials of the two countries.
The two sides agreed that the fourth round of dialogue will be held in China next year.
