KIEV, Sept. 13 -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the United States for unblocking the allocation of military assistance to Ukraine at the 16th Yalta European Strategy Summit in Kiev on Friday.
Zelensky said he held several phone conversations with U.S. President Donald Trump.
"Before, the United States temporarily blocked 250 million U.S. dollars in military assistance... Now I can say that we have excellent relations with the USA because besides the blocked 250 million U.S. dollars we will receive 140 [million U.S. dollars ]. So I think we are really moving in the right direction and we have a good relationship with our strategic partner the United States of America. I am grateful to them for their help," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president also expressed the hope that his personal meeting with his U.S. counterpart will take place in September.
The White House relinquished its hold on 250 million U.S. dollars in military aid to Ukraine on Wednesday.
