Teen vampires again took the top spot at the box office, beating out new, family-friendly competition from a gang of childhood heroes, as well as from the highly anticipated adaptation of the novel 'Life of Pi.'

Overall, the holiday weekend extended what has been a relatively robust run for Hollywood, with the five-day box office tally coming in at $290 million, the highest-ever Thanksgiving Day weekend totals. With few significant releases set to open until 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,' on Dec. 14, the industry must count on continued momentum from the films already in theaters.

The film, from Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.'s Summit Entertainment, has grossed $577.7 million world-wide. 'Twilight' handily trumped two new releases: 'Rise of the Guardians,' from DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., and 'Life of Pi,' from News Corp.'s Twentieth Century Fox. News Corp. also owns The Wall Street Journal.

Studio executives are counting on an extended holiday season to bolster prospects for The $145 million film is distributed by Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures.

The approximately $115 million film, directed by Ang Lee, is expected to do healthy international business, and debuted at NO.1 in the four foreign territories in which it opened: China, India, Taiwan and Hong Kong, bringing in a total of $17.5 million.

Two older releases continued strong performances over the weekend, with 'Skyfall,' the latest James Bond film, earning $51 million, making it No. 2 at the box office and bringing its cumulative domestic total to $221.7 million. And 'Lincoln,' the Steven Spielberg-directed film starring Daniel Day-Lewis, took in $34.1 million. 'Lincoln,' from DreamWorks Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Co., stood in third place, and has earned $62.2 million in cumulative domestic grosses.
