TEHRAN, Jan. 29 -- A senior Iranian security official said here Tuesday that the Islamic republic has no plan to boost the range of its missiles, official IRNA news agency reported.
"Iran has no scientific and operational limits to increase the range its missiles, however, it has no intention to boost the range of missiles only because of its defense doctrine," Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said.
Meanwhile, Iran continuously work to enhance the accuracy of its missiles, Shamkhani was quoted as saying.
Earlier, Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), said that the current Iranian missiles with the range of 2,000 kilometers are sufficient to fulfill the country's purposes, according to Tasnim news agency.
The 2,000-km range for Iran's missiles is sufficient because "most of American interests and forces" lie within this range, Jafari said.
Western countries, including the United States and France, have urged Iran to give up development and test of ballistic missiles.
Iran has dismissed the calls, saying that it will continue to test missiles in line with its deterrence policy despite adversarial positions taken on this issue by the U.S. and France.
